I don't read French, that being said I have owned and used Malmassari's first edition happily for over a decade. The illustrations alone are worth the cost of that book.NOWI get it all in a language I can read! Plus the new edition is updated. It has the trains from the recent wars in the Balkans. It has an expanded section on the Japanese Imperial trains. OK I'm not going to list everything it has. It is a lot easier to mention what it doesn't have. That would be nothing. I'm sure there is some really obscure train or rail trolley that isn't here. I have no idea what it is. Because ever train I've ever heard of IS here, plus a lot that I've never seen anywhere else. If you want to buy a book on armored trains buy this. Don't wait, don't hesitate. Buy this book!

I am a devotee of armored trains and have eighteen books on the subject. This one volume surpasses all my previous reads combined.

Must have! Hoping for encyclopedia of rail mounted navel guns. Waiting for Vol. 2?

A complete examination of the subject.

This book is a very complete review of armoured train operations from day one until the late seventies or there about. If you have any interest in this subject, this should be the book for you. Recommended.

Outstanding book - beautifully illustrated, comprehensive, printed on glossy paper with a quality binding. Very happy to add this to my library.

Incredibly comprehensive review of the armored trains throughout the world. Tons of wonderful pictures and schematics. My only niggling complaint is I would have like some details about the engines that pulled them...such as power, top speed, hauling capability, things along those lines.

Got what I wanted at a reasonable price.

"Fans who want to maintain a fairy-tale image of how 'The Princess Bride' was made will find that his gentle recollections serve this goal perfectly. Watch the movie all over again with newfound knowledge." (New York Times Book Review)"An engaging memoir that charts the film's tumultuous journey from a project stuck in development hell, to charmed production, to flop, to classic." (Chicago Tribune)“Cary Elwes' book recounts the wacky antics of Billy Crystal, Rob Reiner, and others behind 'The Princess Bride'… . [A] delightful remembrance of the three months he spent making the unsung movie that went on to become a family classic.” (New York Daily News)“A tender, comical behind-the-scenes look at the 1987 classic.” (US Weekly)“Designed to hit all fan-service sweet spots for folks familiar with the film, as it’s stuffed with photos, recollections, and interviews with relevant parties. Club)“Filled with fun tidbits from the cast about making a movie that became an unlikely classic.” (Los Angeles Magazine)“This is an entertaining tale of how 24-year-old Elwes learned how to ride a horse in the Rob Reiner adaptation of William Goldman’s screenplay (and original, brilliant book).” (Flavorwire.com)“[A] fascinating memoir…Cary Elwes has proved that he is as adept with the mighty pen as he is with the powerful sword. …A treasure trove of fascinating behind-the-scenes accounts…As You Wish is thoughtfully and seamlessly compiled.” (New Orleans Living Magazine)“The movie 'The Princess Bride' achieved a certain cinematic magic, which Elwes (Westley) captures in his warm and revealing behind-the-scenes account.” (Publishers Weekly)“Even if you don’t have a crush on Cary Elwes, you’ll enjoy this vivid behind-the-scenes account of the making of 'The Princess Bride'. His stories, especially those involving Andre the Giant, will leave you in stitches. Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal, and others also recount their experiences. An amusing account of a group of performers who came together to make a heartfelt film that is loved by many.” (Library Journal)

Probably the fastest I've ever listened to an audiobook. The impressions alone are worth the money, not to mention the great stories about the making of "The Princess Bride." I couldn't stop listening. What impressed me the most was the clear love and admiration the cast and crew had and still have for each other. You can HEAR it in their voices as they talk about each other. Most loved was Andre the Giant. I loved hearing the different impressions of him from Elwes, Reiner, and I believe Sarandon or Guest. You hear how much training and work went into the Greatest Swordfight in Modern History. To hear that Robin Wright and Cary Elwes wanted to keep doing more takes of the final kiss is beyond adorable. Rob Reiner sounds like the nicest guy ever, and I now want to read every book William Goldman ever wrote. I'm sure a dustcover poster is cool, but to me, hearing the actors themselves read and talk about their experiences was beyond worth it.

I pre-ordered the book as soon as I heard about it, since The Princess Bride has been one of my favorite movies since I saw it in the theater so many years ago.The book does not disappoint and the short review is thus:If you're a fan of THIS movie, just buy the book.If you'd like a behind the scenes look of what goes on to get a movie made, buy this book. I can't emphasize this enough. By twenty-five percent in, I'd already learned more about the process of making a movie (findind the talent, what it feels like to learn to sword fight, the purpose of a table-read, et al) than any other book or show I've ever seen. If you've never seen "The Princess Bride" - it's not required. If you're the type of person who likes to watch A&E Biographies or VHI1's "Behind the Music" or even "Inside The Actor's Studio" with James Lipton - BUY THIS BOOK.If you're looking for a gritty, largely negative tell-all, you'll be disappointed.______________________________________My longer review (largely spoiler free):The first thing that struck me about the telling was the light tone of the book. The first several times I read "as you wish" (the phrase in the book - which shows up a few times in the first five or so pages), I did cringe a little bit. I also very quickly picked up that Mr. Elwes gives what I could only think of as a "rose colored glasses look back" at how the movie came to be.But you know what? It works wonderfully. A lovingly crafted movie about a fairy tale deserves a fairy tale look back at how it all came to be. One also begins to realize that Cary landed the role and played the part like his real life had taken on fairy tale proportions as well. The book is not perfect. There are a few times where Mr. Elwes is a bit repetitive, and perhaps a few times where some segments go on longer than they need to. However, I still give it five stars because overall, the book is extremely engaging - a page burner, if you will. More importantly, we get to see a veritible diary's honesty as if written in between takes of the movie. The author is quite self-deprecating and one can't express enough how refreshing it is. Once again, I find myself wishing, like I did back in 1987, that I could see Cary Elwes up on screen a whole lot more.Once I started getting deeper into the "story", as it were, Cary really finds his voice. I had no idea going in that this wasn't just a bunch of cutesy stories about how Andre got drunk or other tidbits you might hear about on set. No way. Again, in a very conversational tone by someone who obviously loved the experience, Cary regales us with inifinite details that frankly, I'm astounded he remembers. Right down to snacks being served on silver platters in one of the hotels.I loved his chapter on sword-fighting. Granted, I'm a fantasy/sci-fi geek from way back who thought the swordfight in the movie was absolutely fantastic, but hearing how much he had to train and work for that scene only gave me greater appreciation for the effort. (Probably not the least of one of his reasons for devoting a bit of time for that in his book! Mr. Elwes had to work his butt off!)One other note about the tone of the book: I can nearly hear Cary's "English Accent" as he narrates the book. (I put that in quotes, because I can't think of Cary Elwes without thinking of his line from "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" where he says, "Unlike some Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English Accent!") ;) I almost started to feel like a new actor on a set, he relays the feelings that well. Cary, if I may call him that, lets you get inside his head, revealing his own insecurities and feelings. There were many points while reading that I found myself smiling. I had to come back to this review to point that out. It's quite simply, that enjoyable of a read. The book is also surprisingly hefty. I figured.. "How many anecdotes can this guy tell? I mean, I love the movie and I've been a fan of Cary Elwes since he made it, but .. haven't we heard them all?"Not by a long shot. And the (numerous!) quotes from Rob Reiner and other cast members were a complete joy to read and something of a surprise, since I didn't know they were included as well. One thing about some actors that has made me cringe is when beloved movies become an embarrassment for them. The fear of type casting is taken to new heights (or whatever their motivation). Sure, I can appreciate an actor begrudging that a movie you make when you're 25 is the greatest thing you've ever done - and you always want to think that your best is yet to come.Thankfully, Mr. Elwes has never been "that guy" and it shows in the book he's written. One can tell from reading that he understood how lucky he was at the time and has appreciated it ever since. It warms the heart finding out that he's as much a fan of the story (and eventually, of the movie) as any other fan was.You know how some DVD bonuses involve actors or directors running around with behind the scenes cameras? Getting to see the creation of the movie? "The Lord of the Rings" comes to mind and on the "Dread Pirate Roberts" version of the DVD, this film has a fair amount. But, no amount of behind the scenes started when Cary Elwes was still on the set of another movie...it's that comprehensive.Besides there never seems to be enough footage - a fan of the movie or a movie buff can't get enough of this stuff. I know in my case, I couldn't put the book down!Just like there's a shortage of perfect... tell-alls, in this world (Sorry, had to go there! What fan wouldn't include his/her favorite quote? :) ) It would be a pity if you missed this one.

For those of us who grew up with Princess Bride and still have a habit of silently, or sometimes loudly, saying the many memorable lines of this cult classic, this book could not come soon enough. For those who haven't seen it, The Princess Bride is a movie with a bit of everything: fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, and wuv, twuu wuv.The book takes readers behind the scenes for the movie's most recognizable moments, and includes remembrances from numerous esteemed cast members like Wallace Shawn (Vizzini), Mandy Patinkin (Montoya), Billy Crystal (Miracle Max), Robin Wright (Buttercup), and director Rob Reiner, who each share incredible stories behind how the movie was made and what effect it had on their lives. So much great insight, humor, and congeniality between the cast and crew in the making of this magical film. Inconceivable! The book is full of wonderful behind-the-scenes stories that are bound to wow any fan. The printed edition has photographs from Reiner and Norman Lear's personal collections, plus plenty of set secrets and very funny tales backstage tales which will keep any fan in stitches. This book is an absolute must have for any Princess Bride fan, and a should have for everyone else!

I own many Kaufman field guides, so why would I need this one? Because Kenn Kaufman, his wife Kimberly and Jeff Sayre have done a fantastic job putting together the only book really needed to ID just about anything found outdoors in the Midwest. The format of this book is similar to other Kaufman field guides--compact traveling size (8" x 5"), beautiful and clear photographs accompanied with concise information on opposite pages and easy color tabs for quick ID access. Included with my review are two random pictures taken from the field guide to show what typical pages look like. I don't think the authors left out anything. Midwestern nature lovers will have no trouble identifying birds, mammals, trees, wildflowers, insects, reptiles, amphibians, fish, spiders, mushrooms, ferns, grasses and even constellations and rocks if they have this book. My book paid for itself when I identified (in a matter of seconds) a Giant Leopard Moth. Surprisingly, I could not find this particular moth in the more specific Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Insects and Spiders. As an ID source, this book is an excellent reference. I've waited a long time for such an inclusive field guide. The Midwest is a treasure trove of hidden beauty--Field Guide To Nature Of The Midwest will help you identify all your discoveries.

Don't purchase this field guide expecting extensive information about each entry -- the unique benefit of this book is its relative breadth, not depth, and its focus on nature most likely encountered in the Midwest (note: only includes Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan).Images are good quality, with associated distributions usually indicated on a small map to the right of each entry. Descriptions are often amusing; I've chuckled aloud more than once (flying squirrels are introduced as "wide-eyed gnomes"; brown creepers as "a bit of bark come to life"). Each category (e.g., ferns, birds, mammals, etc) also has a brief introductory section covering basic science points.Overall, this book is perfect for carrying on hikes or other outdoor adventures for initial identification of flora and fauna, with the caveat that additional information will need to be found elsewhere, as in a dedicated guide for birds, trees, etc.

I like the Kaufman Field Guide to Birds of North America, and carry it with me regularly when I go birding. Living in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I figured I'd order his Field Guide to Nature of the Midwest perhaps to use as a general field guide for, say, when I go camping or on short hikes. Like his bird guide, the photographs are excellent in this one as well. Now, anybody who is very serious about birds, or wildflowers, or butterflies, or mushrooms would want to, of course, carry a field guide dedicated to their one specific subject. But, outside of birding, I'm not that serious on the other flora and fauna, and I think this one book covers enough wildflowers, dragonflies, insects etc. in the Midwest to serve a quite useful purpose, and would make for a handy volume to put in the backpack or keep in the camper. For that purpose, as a general one-stop guide, I recommend this book highly, especially at $8.87, the price can't be beat.

This guide is great, and will not answer every question you have but is great for identifying more predominant critters and plants/flora and fauna down to family or order. For some it might get you all the way to species, but this is a basic field guide and not an authoritative survey. It will provide enough basic knowledge that all outdoor enthusiasts should know, such as how the constellations will present, which geologic formations are where, conservation information, and will answer enough questions that it is, in fact, a great investment and a great book to keep around when going outdoors. Especially for those that get curious.I must admit though, I am from Oklahoma. Occasionally, Oklahoma will be lumped in with the Midwest region and I took a gamble and bought the book in hopes that it would be included. It is not in the region covered in the book. Technically, Oklahoma would be a "Western-South-Central State" and is also sometimes lumped in with the South (as it probably should be considering its culture), so it wasn't a huge surprise. So, pay attention to which states are included. However, many of the species included in the book are here in Oklahoma, and other nearby states as well. The book keeps its relevance of course, and I have already used it to identify a few aster-type flowers, tiger beetles, red fox squirrels (although that one is easy in Oklahoma), etc. Other species I found in the book I do also know to be present in Oklahoma, such as the copperhead, black bear, and various others species. In addition, if the species is not exactly what is in the book you can at least know what order or family it is, and go from there.Furthermore, I have used Kaufman guides during Entomology studies at OU. They're very helpful for research in which you need to quickly identify many different families, and get you to the correct dichotomous key. Very useful books indeed.

I bought this for my husband. He is recently retired and has taken up feeding the birds on a much bigger scale than we did in the winter. We live in the country and have LOTS of birds. He was constantly asking me what kind of bird is that? What kind is that other one? I only know a few birds and got tired of saying "I don't have any idea, look it up on your phone". It is much easier to have the book right there and he can compare it to the birds on the feeders. He loves it. He is educating himself and me about the many types of birds we are feeding. The book is easy to use and has great pictures of birds and as a bonus, all the other critters, plants, etc that are around here. He has learned a lot about plants, bugs, etc and loves to share his new knowledge with everyone.

Review

"If we are to survive and hopefully thrive as a species, Amos Clifford's book is a must-read. Clear and insightful, his writing is pure poetry. Our relationship to Nature can be renewed and Forest Bathing shows us how." --Rosita Arvigo, author of Rainforest Home Remedies and Sastun: My Apprenticeship with a Maya Healer"Mature forests produce an enigma to modern medicine: an airborne biochemical nectar, the essence of the trees. To walk in this sea of chemistry, and take it in through your senses, is called forest bathing. The healing is immediate. For most people, the synergy sweeps the body, mind and soul back into a holistic unit. Even as a child, Amos Clifford carried this wisdom in his heart. Let the wisdom in his book permeate yours." --Diana Beresford-Kroeger, author of The Global Forest and star of the new documentary Call of the Forest"M. Amos Clifford is a forest guide, psychotherapist, restorative justice worker, and longtime Zen meditation practitioner. His book is a beautiful exploration of forest bathing, a source of information on the medical and scientific evidence of its benefits, and a guide to all that's needed for a fulfilling forest-bathing practice." --Foreword Reviews, Kristine Morris, May/June 2018"In Your Guide to Forest Bathing, Amos Clifford asks: 'Remember watching clouds as a child, seeing the shapes of fantastic creatures appear and then morph slowly into something new? I wonder how many adults have in their minds that they will do this again, someday, when they are not too busy?' I hope you are not too busy to pick up this poetic and comprehensive book that invites you into the healing forest that Clifford knows so well, as a lifelong seeker and founder of the world's foremost organization training forest therapy guides. Take this invitation to revisit a world you may have abandoned as a child." -Melanie Choukas-Bradley, ANFT Certified Forest Therapy Guide and Author, The Joy of Forest Bathing, A Year in Rock Creek Park, and City of Trees"A joyful and insightful invitation to reconnect with forests. Amos Clifford is an outstanding guide to deepening our relationships within the community of life." --David George Haskell, author of The Songs of Trees and Pulitzer finalist, The Forest Unseen, Professor, University of the South"In this book, Amos weaves a precious tapestry of practical details, poetic imagining, and historical perspective on the practice of forest bathing. It's a delightful read that leaves you yearning for intimacy with nature." --Sylvie Rokab, award-winning filmmaker, Love Thy Nature"The scientific data confirming the mental, emotional, and biophysical benefits of forest bathing are most exciting and validating to me as an integrative physician. However, what makes this book rise to excellence is how Amos Clifford describes the experience of forest bathing so that your heart poetically engages. His writing magically unites us with the healing rhythms of nature to dissolve lingering issues and bring about profound peace of heart." --Philip Barr, MD, Duke Integrative Medicine"It helps to know that Nature is good for our mental and physical health! Clifford shares a detailed history of the practice of Forest Bathing and the health benefits of the practice. Our state has rich forest resources and this book inspires me to take a mindful walk in the Michigan woods." --Alyson Jones Turner, Source Booksellers"John Muir once said, 'between every two pine trees is a doorway leading to a new way of life.' Now Amos Clifford has given us a beautiful and inspiring guide inviting us to seek out the trees and let the healing happen, both for us and for our beleaguered ecosystems. Grab this book and head outside." --Florence Williams, author of The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative"In this book, Amos Clifford offers a delightful introduction to the healing power of forests--and to the natural world that supports wellness in our stress-filled society." --Yoshifumi Miyazaki, Ph.D., Chiba University, Japan, Forest Medicine researcher, author of Shinrin Yoku: The Japanese Art of Forest Bathing

Forest bathing is becoming a big buzzword, but how do you actually do it? And is it BS? This is a short, accessible guide on how to create a personal practice of connecting to nature for the health benefits -- for humans AND for nature. The clear, accessible writing lays out what we know intuitively (and is backed up by science): being in nature is good for us. Clifford outlines the elements of practice and how to tune into the senses to connect to nature. There are step-by-step instructions on how to "forest bathe" and "invitations". I appreciate that the author separates forest bathing out from "spiritual" practices. It's a culturally/spiritually neutral book, so anyone could benefit from the practice, even if they're allergic to new-age hippie BS. There's a practical section on what to bring, how to find a guide (if you want one), and how to stay safe.I teach and practice meditation, but I find forest bathing infinitely "easier". Rather than having to tune out my senses, I get to use, and dare I say, enjoy them! As someone who lives in an overstimulating urban environment, I appreciate a practice that lets me turn them back on -- which is apparently one of the big health benefits: improved attention and sensory regulation. (There are loads more; read the book!) Listening to the spring birds calling each other, watching the breeze carry the leaves in the canopy, sensing the squish of spring mud under my feet -- it just feels good and slows me down without me having to think about it so much. It's helped tons with my depression, anxiety, ADHD, Ehlers Danlo, neuroatypicalities, and sensory processing issues. Also included is a somewhat radical notion: spending time in relationship with nature is a form of activism. It makes sense -- once you're out in nature, noticing the connections and the ecosystem, it's harder to feel separate from it. I've noticed I've been making little changes that are good for the environment without really thinking about it -- I'm just a little more aware of how my actions affect the world around me.The best part of the book is that Clifford clearly has a deep relationship with and affection for the "more-than-human" world. It's inspiring. Highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a pretty easy way to unwind from modern life.

From the moment that I picked up this book and felt the soft texture of the cover, I was intrigued to read it and, as is stated on the cover, ‘Discover the Secrets of Shinrin-Yoku.’ I am a certified guide who has been introducing people to and guiding Forest Bathing walks for three years. In this book I found a most concise explanation of this practice, it’s health benefits, and how it can enhance our relationship with the natural world. Excellent guidelines are offered for experiencing a forest bathing walk for those new to the practice as well as for those who have been on many walks. I most enjoyed the suggestions for invitations, or suggestions of ways to connect with nature, that can be explored on a forest bathing walk. Explanations and instructions throughout this book are clear and can be followed with ease. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of the forest bathing practice.

Thorough and accessible is how I would describe this fantastic little book. You won't be sorry you bought it. The author does a fantastic job. The eight-day Forest Therapy Guide training is also superb and the most extensive training available.

Not only is this book highly fascinating and informative, I felt as if Amos were reading it aloud from a tree-stump in the woods. His voice comes through in the soothing, comforting, articulate and passionate way that is just pure Amos Clifford. The Standard Sequence of forest bathing, as created by Amos, is laid out in a way that is not only logical and effective, but is also replicable. This book is it: THE fundamental foundation of forest bathing as we know it in the U.S. today. It's your guide written by THE guide. I'm thrilled that it is finally on paper for millions to learn from and enjoy.

I became interested in the subject of Forest Bathing upon reading an article in TIME magazine concerning the health benefits of walking in the forest amidst nature. Unfortunately, this book didn't appeal to me because it moved too slowly.I gave up reading before finishing its content. I'll donate it to my library as others may be interested in the subject matter.

Bought because I had heard about it on MPR. This book reinforced what I already knew. Nature is centering. Not a compelling read for me personally.

Well written and organized. I totally connect to nature and have intuitively been doing this for years. With that said I still picked up a few things that I can add to my practice. I put this book in every tree house for guests to have ideas on how to connect to our property, themselves and others. I don't understand people that viewed this less than 5 stars. I wonder if they tried any of the invitations.

The methods are interesting and novel, but the underlying mindset is not new and follows that of the English Romantic poets, the pioneer generally considered Robert Burns. The book closes with a thought about man’s domination of nature and the need for a feeling of oneness. Consider the 2nd stanza of Burns, To A Mouse where a farmer addresses a mouse whose home has just been destroyed by a plow: I am truly sorry man’s dominion has broken nature’s social union and justifies that ill opinion that make thee startle at me, earth-bound companion and fellow mortal. Or maybe the end of Coleridge’s Rime of the Ancient Mariner ( “ All things both great and small.......THe good lord that madeth us made and loveth all”).

Violet Stiel loves her Daddy. She knows many of us love him too. And now that he has died, she'd like two things:1. To keep him as alive as she can through memories and affectionate tribute2. For you to know the man she knew, and love him as she did. This book is not a biography of Ramis or his daughter. Rather, it's a memoir - a glimpse into each of their lives, following the thread of where those two lives intersected. It is the story of Violet's rare relationship with an uncommon man, and how he shaped her world and her heart. This is not the dramatic Biography of a Famous Man. It's not the Heartbreaking Memoir of a Dysfunctional Family. It's a love letter to Harold Ramis, from the person whose life he touched more deeply than any other, and invitation for you to see the man she saw. An invitation worth accepting.#EgonButNotForgotten

Warning: This book is near impossible to put down. Granted, this comes from a kid who was "Egon" every chance he got at recess back in the day but I'll tell you, this is one very well-written book. Violet pulls no punches and candidly discusses the successes and failures, big and small, in her life and her father's life. It becomes clear early on that there is no sugar-coating here, and it is against this backdrop of sincerity that the warm, compassionate, loving spirit of her father shines through. Too many books in this genre (about a legend who has passed on) treat the person in an almost god-like way. This one doesn't. Violet instead focuses on what made Harold Ramis human, giving us an unvarnished insight into what Egon was really like. Very well done.

This book thoroughly explores Violet Ramis Stiel's relationship with her father, legendary comedy actor, writer and director Harold Ramis. The focus remains squarely on that relationship, and we learn as much about the author as we do about her famous father. While film fans may be looking for more in-depth analysis of Ramis' process as a filmmaker, and more information about the making of his films than we get here, this book gives some fascinating insight into Ramis as a father and as a man. To me, that is much more interesting.

I was fortunate enough to have a copy of "Ghostbuster's Daughter" by Violet Ramis-Stiel delivered to me two days before it officially hit bookshelves (thank you, Amazon Prime!). I pre-ordered this as soon as I heard the news and as a fan of Harold Ramis's work, had been hotly anticipating the book. As soon as I got it, I had it finished within a day. (Yes, it was that good.)The title "Ghostbuster's Daughter" is kind of deceptive, because there really isn't a whole lot said about the comedy blockbuster or its sequel that Harold Ramis co-wrote and co-starred in with Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. The chapters, for the most part, are titled after the many movies Harold wrote and/or directed, and are about the corresponding period in Violet's life when her dad was making these movies. If you buy this book expecting a detailed biography of Harold Ramis's life, you might be a little let down. This book is really more his daughter Violet's story, which was very compelling. Violet herself had an unconventional upbringing being the daughter of an unpredictable artist and a Renaissance man who would become one of the godfathers of modern comedy. Violet does not go into a lot of detail about either her mother or her stepmother, but they are not the focus of the book. Harold was his daughter's rock through her messy yet remarkable life. "Ghostbuster's Daughter" is a well-constructed memoir (released in time for Father's Day), not just of a famous filmmaker, but how Violet became a pretty well-adjusted woman as a result of some unorthodox parenting.Harold Ramis is often held up to god-like status by fans because of his success with films such as "Caddyshack," "Groundhog Day," and the aforementioned "Ghostbusters." For as much reverence as Violet holds her father in for what a patient, generous, kind person he was, she also writes that he was a regular person who was not without vices (this book is liberally sprinkled with pot usage!). Yet he strived to learn and grow into a better person, for his family and for himself. His influence definitely rubbed off on his daughter, who seems like an awesome person. While the ending is sad (Harold passed away in 2014 from complications of autoimmune vasculitus), Violet does not go into graphic detail about his final years which had to be incredibly difficult on her and her family. Violet Ramis-Stiel is fortunate to have had a special relationship with her father that most young girls lack growing up. You don't have to be a fan of "Ghostbusters" to enjoy this celebration of Harold Ramis's life and his daughter's journey into adulthood, and I hope to read more from Violet in the future.

I couldn't put this book down. I did not grow up in anywhere near the level of squalor Britney survived, but I could relate so much. The same voice in my head, similar struggles. I really connected when Britney talked about making her own shampoo out of the myriad existing bottles in the bathroom - I've never heard of ANYONE else doing that. It sounds like such a silly little thing but that's what got me emotionally and then I was truly hooked. Britney, thank you for writing this book, it really means a lot to hear your story, as another person who grew up with a hoarding parent.

I could not stop reading this book. It was both a shock to my system hearing her tell her story but a bright and surprising light at the end. This book gives you a whole new look at the illness of hoarding through the eyes of a child.

Good book. Worth the price. Thank you for sharing... Now I feelike I need to straighten something up! Lol :)

I love this bookIt was sad but ended on a good noteIt proves that even in the worst circumstancesThere is hope anything can be changed

Very captivating. I recommend it. Interesting, it's set in the Midwest US yet written with words and spelling often only someone from the UK would really understand.

I received a copy of Trash from the publisher in return for an honest review.Trash tells the heartbreaking and graphic tale of how life with a hoarder effects a family. The cramped, disgusting, unhealthy conditions and the emotional and physical repercussions it has on a child both within and without the home. This is the shocking reality for some. Children and families forced to live in conditions that are awful and out-with their own control. Conditions that they've grow up in, all the while not understanding that it's not normal. Conditions that when they are old enough to realise not everyone lives this way, they find themselves ashamed to admit what's going on. They have no power or stability of their own to improve the situation. Too ashamed to reach out to others and ask for help, like it's somehow their fault.I can't say I enjoyed reading this, who would? It's shocking. It's heartbreaking and yet I read on. While many of us live happily in our nice houses, with warm clean clothes, and food on our table, the reality is that many don't have what we take for granted each day. It is a fascinating read however, it's well written and allows you to see into a situation that although you know it's reality for some, you truly don't understand how it really affects someone or how they could end up living this way. It gives insight into the thoughts and emotions of those who find themselves living with hoarding and shows how it's not simple or easy to get out or to ask for help. It's a very personal story to share with the world. The author's voice pulls you into her world and has you immediately caring and sympathising with her, wanting to reach out and help in some way. It's not an easy read, it will have you cringing, angry, sad and probably give you the urge to clean your house, but it will also make you appreciate and be more grateful for what you have in life.

I was granted this book to read from Random House UK, Ebury Publishing via Net GalleyI love books such as Cathy Glass and Casey Watson so I just had to read this one. Its totally different from a child who was sexual abused or the usual type of reads like this. This is a story about a little girl who grew up with a Mom who was messy, dirty and well, certainly unusual and eccentric. She tended to have mood swings too.As the child grew she came across the word 'hoarder' and realized that was describing her Mom! The appalling way she had to live was upsetting to read.I've seen the program 'hoarders' on TV and always wondered how a person could live like that. But this is a knock on effect to the daughter who lived along side her. Who was treated like some sort of slave and then on the other hand, treated nicely which was confusing not only for me but for the little girl!I have to say that I read this book within a day, its compulsive reading. Its well written, great details, graphic in that you can imagine all the rubbish surrounding you....urrggghhh and the smells.I won't tell you any more, if you like books such as this, then I recommend it.Britney Fuller has done a great job in writing this book.I would definitely buy it for a friend.

There are some books that you come across which make you realize how different our world is from few others and theirs from few others more. I came across this book on net galley and it is about a girl who has always been surrounded by trash. Not because she does not have a place to live in, not because she does not have a family but because her mother was a trash hoarder. Which she happens to realize later in life. Needless to say it caught my attention and I started reading it right away. This is definitely one of the best books that I have read this year. And I am sure you will feel so too after reading it.

A few years ago I became terribly ill and am partially bedridden, it was during this time God showed me one phrase in the Bible that stuck out as if I had never seen it before - TRUST GOD. It changed my life and what was I was searching for the whole thing me. The words of The Cure are like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, coming together at just the right time, which provide a bigger picture of everything God has shown me since then and everything is built around trusting God.Everything you already knew, which God has been telling you all along, is confirmed in the words of this book. You are not imagining it when you think to yourself, “the people at church are no doubt nice people, and I know many of them love the Lord and want to help, but something doesn’t seem right because the scripture seems to be saying something other than what they are saying it means.” The confusion comes from GOOD INTENTIONED PEOPLE TRYING TO MIX OLD COVENANT LAW AND NEW COVENANT GRACE, this is the very reason many of the epistles were written! That is the Judaizer religion then spoke and fought against.Let go of the old covenant law, it was written for the Israelites at the foot of the mountain and no one else. That old covenant was broke and then replaced with God’s new covenant of grace, mercy, love and life by the spirit in and through the person of Jesus Christ and Him in you.Trust Jesus and rest in his love. Relax and know he is for you and not against you. Have faith in him and not the judaizer religion, rules, laws or regulations that were passed down to you. They won’t save you, but Jesus THE SAVIOR will! This is a masterpiece of truth, don’t pass it up.Another couple excellent books to read are “The faith that pleases God - You don’t need to strive for what you already have” and “Classic Christianity.” By Bob George. They say the same thing as The Cure.Other suggested readings are from authors Bob Christopher and Andrew Farley, “Simple gospel, Simply grace” and “The Naked Gospel” respectively.

I grew up in a church that taught us that working hard for my salvation would make sure that I was in a place that I was pleasing God. This book took that incorrect theology and turned it on its head. God desires for us to trust him. And out of that trust for him, we will experience his love in a much deeper way. I cannot recommend this book enough. GREAT FOR SMALL GROUPS! I carry an extra copy with me most places I go. You never know when you might run into a recovering pleaser!

“The Cure: What if God isn’t who you think He is and neither are you” is a book co-authored by John Lynch, Bruce McNicol, and Bill Thrall. The idea behind the book is to open people’s eyes to the truth of God’s grace. The authors utilize a parable type of delivery to get their point across. There’s a man traveling a road and reaches a cross-road. Down one path is a building filled with people to are seeking to find hope, purpose, and salvation through their works, and down the other path a building full of people relying on God’s grace alone. The delivery seems well intentioned, but a bit clumsy to me. While it was easy to understand, I never really connected with parable. There is still plenty in the book to like however. This one is absolutely full of highlighter worthy moments. Some of my favorite quotes from the book:“No one told me that when I wear a mask, only my mask receives love”.“Bacterial infections often keep spreading poison until antibiotics are introduced. You can dress nicer and comb your hair all you want, but you’ll only be a well-dressed sick person with nicely combed hair”.“If I follow the first path, I’m trying to change from who I was into who I should be. If I follow the second, I’m maturing into who I already am. In the first, I’m working toward becoming righteous. In the second, I’m already righteous, made right by God in the moment I believed”.All in all, I’m a little torn on this book. I thought a lot of it was a slow read, but I also found many strong points in it as well. I do think we take for granted God’s amazing grace and few fully comprehend the transaction that took place through the cross and resurrection – Christ becoming sin and us becoming the righteousness of God. But there is a large contingency out there who are following a “hyper-grace” theology and while this book never dives completely into that camp, it could walk close to that line for those reading it who don’t have a firm biblical foundation. I don’t think this book is for everyone, and I don’t see it as a “must read” like many other reviewers have stated. I do however see value in the book and for some people it could certainly be of strong benefit.

Reading the 97 pages of The Cure was one of the most freeing experiences of my Christian walk, and that's why it's now the sixth book on my "must-read" list.Don't be fooled by this book's small size. It's packed with truth like few others; accessible by all and applicable to all.Having been raised in a traditional religious system, I lived much of my life with an inaccurate view of God and of myself. Over the years, I've been able to fix the flawed foundation upon which my faith was built. However, a book such as The Cure would have saved me untolled years and struggles.Without spoiling anything for the reader, I'll say only that if you believe that our sin separates us from our Heavenly Father, this book will be a godsend (pun intended). No matter whether you consider yourself a new follower or a mature follower, your faith walk will benefit from reading The Cure.
