Awesome 3.5 supplement book! Thanks!

lots of extra for D&D

I really like this publication. It explains all the relationships between the gods and demigods. The prestige classes are very cool. I wish this was hard cover because it is one of my favorites.

Needed some 3.5 books glad to find these! They were in perfect condtion now myu set is almost complete! It is always nice to find quality books for a good deal!

Awesome book, although some damage and a page taped together, cant complain too much on the damage as I got it for a good price!

This was actually the very first FR book I bought featuring the new d20 ruleset and my collection has grown from there. While 'Magic of Faerun' contains alot of useful information it also contains, like alot of the WOTC product, alot of unnecessary fluff. So what are the actual contents?Chapter 1: Understanding Magic - This chapter covers the primary deities who have magic as one of their portfolio's. There is also a couple of pages devoted to discussion on the various types of magic (i.e. Dead, Wild, Shadow).Chapter 2: Magic Variants - This chapter delves into some of the more obscure matters related to magic - such as Elemental magic, Elven magic, Gem magic. There is also a lengthy discussion on Mageduel's. Then there is a brief discussion of Rune magic and Spellfire. The chapter ends with a small section on the concept of 'Spellpools' (an excellent concept - but not as detailed as they could have made it - making it a missed opportunity).Chapter 3: Practitioners of Magic - This chapter is devoted to those d20 staples 'Feats' and 'Prestige Classes'. When I first bought the book I thought "Great!"; but having seen how bloated the gameline has become with 'Feats' and 'Prestige Classes' I now look at them as mostly unnecessary. Whereas once upon a time, being a War Wizard of Cormyr or a member of the Guild of Magists in Waterdeep would have been a character concept, they have codified them (and many others) into the ruleset which IMHO detracts considerably.Chapter 4: Places of Power - This chapter's name says everything really. The chapter details such things as 'Mystic Maelstroms', 'Sparks' and 'Fey Mounds'. It also discusses at length topics such as how Nature is venerated, and Places of Prayer, Bastions of the Arcane and the silly concept of MageFairs (what's the point of adventuring if you can buy your magic items? Like I said, S - I - L - L - Y).Chapter 5: Spells - This chapter deals with the real crunchy stuff, spells. Eight pages of new spells (in list form), broken down by character type (i.e. Assassin, Bard, Blackguard, etc). To my way of thinking there are already hundreds of spells avaliable and so the inclusion or exclusion of these few is not going to affect the average campaign. However, what I used these spells for was for a mystery factor. I didn't let my spellcasting PC's know about thses spells and only unleashed them in very select circumstances...like the excellent 'Gutsnake'! or in a different campaign I used them as 'undiscovered' spells - when a spellcasting PC wanted to create a new and unique spell I would use this list (once s/he had outlined their general thinking) to suggest some.Chapter 6: Magic Items - This chapter deals with the second favourite PC topic. This is an excellent chapter that features hundreds of new items, from swords through to rings and potions to artifacts. In addition to some really excellent and well-thought out items, there are lots of plain silly and overpowered items - but there is certainly enough to keep any player (or GM) very happy.Chapter 7: Creatures - This chapter details three new creatures and three new creature templates. Nothing really WOW in this chapter, although the 'Crossroads Guardian' is an interesting creature as is the 'Magister' template (templates being much more role-playing orientated rather than 'Prestige Classes').Overall, a very useful book, packed full of ideas, seeds and general information. Probably the best part is that this book could be used in just about any fantasy setting, for example, I'm using the 'Spellpools' concept - although I've expanded it considerably - in a new 'Birthright' campaign.Enjoy.

When I first saw the title "Magic of Faerun", I thought the whole book would be mostly magic spells and a few magic items. I was very pleasantly surprised to learn upon reading it that I was wrong and that the book contained feats, prestige classes, quick adventure ideas and other various magic related information.Rather than focusing solely on spells or items in the beginning of the book, "Magic of Faerun" takes some time to fully describe the situation regarding magic and its history in the Forgotten Realms. This gives some great background for the slew of prestige classes and ideas that follow. I was impressed by the new feats which can add both role-playing and more choices to a campaign. The new skill descriptions (and ideas for skills) were wonderful, since I love the D&D 3E skills. The various prestige classes were numerous and some seemed a bit repetitive, but on the whole they're great and they would be terrific to use on creating some NPCs. I especially enjoyed the "magical places" section which described temples, mage fairs, mageduels, and other such things. I can't wait to intergrate some of the ideas into my own campaign. The magic spells and magic items take up the largest section of the book, but that is to be expected. They were mostly a touch above mediocre, but there were some wonderful additions. I think what I liked best was that some of the spells seemed to add spell choices to classes (such as druids or bards) that helped expand their spell lists greatly. While I wish more of the book had been like the beginning rather than mostly spells and magical items, I still think this is a great tool for both DMs and players. No matter what world your campaign is in, consider picking up this book. It can only help your game.

A Life Without Limits: A World Champion's Journey is am amazing book for any endurance athlete to read, especially amateurs. While it will not win any literary awards, it is truly inspirational and moving. The author presents a remarkable journey starting from not having any athletic aspirations to becoming a world champion. There is a great balance of detailing her strengths and weaknesses. If she had only talked about her strong motivation to succeed, and all her her work to overcome all the obstacles, then it would have come across an arrogant treatise. She demonstrates a level of humility that is rare among most champions, where she gives credit to people and circumstances beyond her control. She also show great self-awareness of her weaknesses, which makes the story much more touching. My favorite chapter was the second last one, where she details the heroes of the sport, who are not the famous champions, but ordinary people participating in Ironman, driven by the sheer desire to make a difference to the world. My favorite theme from the book, is the authors embrace of life, driven by her desire to make a difference in the world, and letting it lead, where it does.

When I read this book the first time, it was so inspiring, I signed up for my first Ironman, which was a life-changing experience. I recommended it to a friend and my sister, and they both started doing long distance triathlons after thinking me initially crazy. Now, after reading it the second time, I'm inspired all over again, as I embark on my second Ironman. Even if you aren't a world champion, the sport of triathlon changes you and shows you you're made of much more than you ever thought you were, and this brings further inspiration to yourself and others. Great book!!

In October of 2007 I was a 46-year-old man who decided I was going to train for a triathlon. Like many newbies to the sport, I began absorbing the history and following the current stars via the triathlon magazines and the many internet sites. Almost right away was the 2007 world championships in Kona, which I pretentiously took great interest in as a person who now cared about triathlon, even though I hadn't actually competed in one yet. That year Chris McCormack was favored to win, and he was very brash about his prospects. On the women's side it was anyone's race and as I followed it on the internet for the first time I was just as surprised as everyone else who won. Chrissie who? She had not been featured in any of the magazines the way Samantha McGlone or Belinda Granger or Hillary Biscay had. Chrissie Wellington was as new to triathlon as I was, it seemed. She also smiled, a lot. She was unassuming and fresh, and didn't sound arrogant or even believing she had actually won the world championship. And she won handily. All these things combined to immediately make her my hero. This girl is the kind of champion I like, I thought, devoid of pretentiousness, yet devastatingly talented. From that point on I followed her every move, every race, every blog entry. My wife, whose name is also Chrissie, completely by coincidence, thought I was a little obsessive, but with each report of what race Chrissie W. won and by what margins, my wife realized she was rooting for her namesake as well. Together we marveled at each triumph, each destroyed record. My wife is also half English so she felt a bit of Old Blighty kinship with Chrissie as well. All that being said, I was waiting with Shakespeare's famous bated breath for Chrissie's book, and after reading it I'm even more admiring of the ordinary girl from Norfolk than I was. We all suspected she was an ordinary human, despite a triathlon career befitting a Marvel costumed character, and reading her telling of her own tale is inspirational, exciting, sometimes shocking, and completely compelling. Yes, she had what seemed to be hidden talents, but this is a driven woman, and she enjoys the drive. Her encouragement to always look beyond your perceived limits is truly inspiring, but also shows wisdom. Nothing can be accomplished if it is not attempted, and Chrissie Wellington's story is one of a person willing to make attempts without accepting any limitations. This might not even work for everyone, but it's a grand book to read about someone who did it and succeeded beyond what anyone thought was possible. Certainly in the triathlon world there is only one Chrissie Wellington and there is likely to only ever be one. Bravo to Chrissie for writing such an honest and heartfelt life story at such a relatively young age.

Chrissie Wellington is a role model juxtaposing the in-your-face arena of public figures. She is a welcome change to the ego-centric rock-star status athletes. She quite literally punches through her suffering and earns her place at the top every time she enters a race.To say Chrissie Wellington is an enigma would befoul her. She is someone who is not capable of being described in one word. What pushes her is the central struggle of this book. What seems to push her is a figure in her life that never showed her much emotion. Her first coach, Brett Sutton, a controversial figure in endurance sports, never seemed to really show her the reactions she was looking for. He kept her on the bottom rung as he did with all his athletes. He is incapable of attending her races, and instead of rejoicing in her accomplishments, he focuses in on his payments. Having a coach like that can be a great distraction from real purpose.Ms. Wellington opens up about her struggle with eating disorders; this shows that an athlete who presents as bulletproof in races fights demons within. While I do not agree with her advice on treatment of eating disorders (to eventually snap out of it), she does present a topic that could have been conveniently left out of publication. In the end she does make a recommendation for those suffering from eating disorders to seek treatment, however I do not think the message was as loud as it should have been. The real purpose of this book was to see what Ms. Wellington endures while competing in the ultra-distance races. Specifically, what did Ms. Wellington endure in her last championship in Hawaii. After she had crashed her bike within two weeks of Kona leaving her with severe road rash, and to have partially torn a pectoral muscle a week before the race during a swim workout, Chrissie Wellington lets us in on the suffering she managed to overcome to triumphantly return to the top of the podium as World Champion. Anyone who watched the race live can remember her not only mowing through the field to return to the lead, but she still had her quintessential (and trademark) smile that provides inspiration to countless triathletes.I feel this book is worth the read. The one downside is her constant switching from first person to second person. One would assume she either has a ghost writer or she enters competition mode whilst writing this book. The use of the second person narrative seems to detract from the focus of the book at times. But it is her candid voice that helps her audience understand who she is. Who is Chrissie Wellington? She is a four-time Ironman World Champion who was never beaten at the ultra distance. She has taken a sabbatical from triathlon competition, departing while at the top of her sport. One could hope that she stays retired and leaves her unbeaten streak intact. In the meantime, this work serves as a great model for many weekend athletes who look for inspiration to fight toward a goal worth attaining.
