About the Author

Michael and Debi Pearl have been married since 1971. They have 5 children and 21 grandchildren. Between them they have authored 14 books and 8 booklets which combined have sold millions. Much of what they write deals with marriage, child training, and homeschooling. One of their recent books, Good and Evil (Bible stories in Marvel comic format), has been published into 40 languages with another 60 translations soon to be ready for press. The Pearl’s also publish a 40 page bi-monthly magazine with a subscription of over 50,000. Needless to say they are prolific writers and public speakers. On another note, Michael is an inductee into the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame and holds several world titles, including Gold Cup winner of 2008-9, long distance thrower of the year with a record all time high of hitting a four inch target at 63 feet, and he is the undisputed best tomahawk thrower of 2009, holding the world title. When he is not teaching the Bible or speaking to audiences on how to have a good marriage and obedient children he is teaching kids how to stick a bull’s eye with a knife or hawk. I got this for my 7yr old grandson because he has an interest in the Bible and I thought a comic book would further his interest. I'm so glad that I read it before I gave it to him...it has great content but he may be a little too young for some of the adult content. This would be ideal for the teens and tweens! Great illustrations and dialogue! Relevant for the present time too.

I wanted a Bible story book to keep my kids in bed while I did my devotions.....this did the trick! My kids are learning to have devotions with this book and Im getting mine done without interuptions! I like that the stories are exactly as the Bible describes. Caution! It doesnt sugar coat any of the Bible stories....my daughter came to me later and said "Did you know Peter was crucified upside down?" We love this book and the kids even ask daddy to read it to them at night.

If you're looking for a supplement to reading the gospel for a younger reader (I would recommend this for ages 8 and older) this should be a good gift. Price is reasonable and considering what you get for your purchase this is almost a steal in my opinion. I have not been disappointed!

The Pearls did a wonderful job on this book. We bought the original black & white version and our children read it many times before it finally fell apart. Since the black & white is no longer available, I purchased the color version. It has the same content that we love. It tells the chronological account of creation to the end times. We all enjoy reading it! My first choice is still the black & white.

Excellent graphic novel. I already owned a copy of it, but ordered this one for a friend who is interested in getting started in reading the Bible, but wants to graphics to help him get a better grasp of it through visual applications. A great help to someone who hates reading to get a better understanding of the Bible on their first experience of it.

Even though, as Scott warns, the names of places in Negril change constantly, this book was invaluable in helping us find our way up and down the beach once we were there. The verbal "map" was especially helpful.Update for the author and other readers: The place just east of Hedonism II, before Grand Lido, is better known as Point Village, made up of many condos with individual owners who may or may not rent them. We stayed in a studio there. Some years ago, it was a resort hotel, but now the former hotel buildings are in a state of disrepair. However, our studio was affordable, the grounds are a place of incredible natural beauty, with two private beaches and rock pools, and it is quiet and very secure.

This book was exactly what we expected: a casual guide with lots of tips on local travel. My son and his fiancé are planning their honeymoon in Negril this August. They don't travel much and really appreciate the inside knowledge.

This book had information a general google search would provide. It had very little elaboration. Don't waste your money. Google your destination.

Lacking pictures and full of filler. Material on-line is more useful. Perhaps a more complete, updated version will be forthcoming.

Had some good information about more off the wall type places, but overall is a basic traveling book with lots of information that is readily available through a web search or travel agency

Controversy has always surrounded children in photographs, especially when they are presented in unconventional ways. In the early 1990s, Sally Mann received immense amounts of criticism for her intimate portraits of her children when she released her series Immediate Family. Over a decade later, and in what one would think is a more accepting world, Jill Greenberg’s series of crying children called End Times sparked an enormous amount of controversy after its debut in 2006. People were so outraged that Greenberg received frequent threats, but nonetheless the series rocketed into the public eye. When adults, especially parents, see these images of distressed children they often stir up a visceral response of outrage, but that is not the only controversial element at play. Greenberg created the work as a portal for her political views and her feelings of the world’s current diminishing state. She was inspired by an essay titled There is no Tomorrow by Billy Moyers in which he remarks about pictures of children on his desk, “We are stealing their future. Betraying their trust. Despoiling their world.” Greenberg relates to this view, in her artist statement talking about how she felt selfish bringing her own children, who are featured in the book, into the world in its current “screwed-up” condition.End Times features 32 photographs originally taken in 2005, and done in Greenberg’s signature style. Dispersed among the images are newspaper clippings with tragic headlines such as “Waves of Death: Tsunami hit without warning” and “Terror in London: Four blasts hit transit system, killing dozens.” The book opens with several essays about Greenberg’s work that prepare the viewer to look beyond the captivating and controversial images of the children crying, and to see the meaning behind the images and the artist’s purpose. The book ends with an artist statement and explanation of the work by the artist. She speaks to how it was created and some of the tactics she used to get the children’s responses, often being nothing more than an irritated child being photo-graphed. The photographs of children depict them in a state of pure emotion, a powerful emotion that Greenberg feels adults have completely suppressed in themselves. It's a descent summary, well written and supported, but has a noticeable skew in portraying Buddhism, especially Mahayana, in an overly positive light. The text fares well by not skimming over some of the more difficult topics of Buddhism (schisms, nihilism, Zen aggression, role of women), but in these discussions Damien shifts the light to the theory of Buddhism as to discount the wrongs of Buddhism to being the wrongs of the implementation, rather than the teaching. In addition, certain not discussed topics include exclusivity (enlightenment is accessible to only these who follow the Buddhist path), and the practical life of a lay Buddhist with a stream of offerings to a pantheon of devas, bodhisattvas and buddhas.

With such a large amount of information to cover, Keown makes the most of this short book and covers history, divisions, and teachings. I would certainly recommend it for those wanting to understand a bit about Buddhism. It does get a bit dry at times because there is simply so much to cover in such a small amount of space. With that said, I would call it a time saver for those needing to understand a nice chunk of Buddhism quickly.

There are many introductory texts available on Buddhism, but this is by far the best I have come across. Its great strength is its scope. Other books that I have read on the subject present some or other particular variety of Buddhism, usually a Westernized version of Zen. As Keown states on page 1, "Students of Buddhism have tended to fasten onto a small part of the tradition and assume their conclusions held true about the whole". He illustrates this with the story of the blind men and the elephant (from a Buddhist scripture called the Udana) in which each man grasps a part of the elephant - tail, trunk, tusk, etc - and bases his description of the animal on that part alone. Keown attempts a broad overview of the history, development and fragmentation of Buddhist thought, from the life of the Buddha to the present day.It is what it says - only a very short introduction - but it is packed with useful information. Keown writes well, in a lucid, concise style.A different edition of the same book is also available in the A Brief Insight series, available here on Amazon. The text in that series is (so far as I can tell) always the same as in the VSI series, but the print is larger and there are many more illustrations, some in color. You might want to check that out if you intend to read this book, which you should.[PeterReeve]

I cannot speak too highly of this series, and of this volume on Buddhism by Keown in particular.

The introduction is short but it is very comprehensive. I enjoyed in particular the exposition on Manayama Buddhism and the clear presentation of the concept of Boddhisattva. I would have liked to have more deep analysis of the concept of no self and of dependent origination but the space is very short. A good introduction.

Has chapters on Buddha, Karma, rebirth, ethics, meditation, art, a short timeline and, as many books in the series have, a list of books for further reading. A great way to start learning about Buddhism if you don't know anything about or just a way to extend your knowledge of it. Small, cheap, and enjoyable to read which makes it a great gift for friends or family who may wish to learn about it without getting into a heavy 500 page tome. Get it used or new!

Found this little volume to be exactly what I hoped it would be. The author presented the information in an interesting, informative and objective manner. specifically comparing the various forms of Buddhism to one another as well as similarities and differences between Buddhism, and other Judeo-Christian religions. If one is looking for a brief introduction, this seems to be right on lline.

An easy book for college-educated laypersons. Seems to provide a survey of adequate breadth and a concrete foundation of concepts and terminology. Not completely objective, as one catches a glimpse of the author’s enthusiasm at times. I recommend it.

Owen is an amazing second chance romance. I love that with the Undercover Billionaire series we get normal guys. Owen is a firefighter and has some secrets he's keeping from his former girl friend Eden. Eden has a lot of trust issues. You really get why as the story unfolds. You feel for her as she continues to fight and give in just to fight her attraction to Owen. As former flames you can still feel the heat coming off these two. I love the sparks and how they work together to solve the mystery behind the fires in the town. Just wait for all the secrets to come out and find out who is behind everything. This book will take you on a ride that you will love. I can't wait for more to come for the Forbes men.

Even though my parents are still alive, I felt your pain at losing your dad. My dad has been ill off and on for years and every time he's in the hospital, I pray that this isn't the last time I see him alive. You are such a gifted and strong woman, a great writer and a beautiful soul. Thank you for writing these great books!

Great Story. You take the time to build your characters in our minds. I love Eden and Owen and through their struggles we become part of their story.Two critiques. Owen would have been more cautious and had security around her especially after being shot at. I don't think Owen would buy that car. It was too much. Boat yes because of their history but not the car.I can't wait to read about Declan.

I loved this story! The hot fireman who's loved his high school sweetheart for years has come back home to claim the love of his life. But first he has to save her life from a serial arsonist. She's not to thrilled about his return because he broke her heart when he left without a word. Now her life is in danger and the only one who makes her feel safe is the one she's afraid of trusting her heart to.

Fantastic book also brought tears to my eyes, thinking about my own Dad and losing him so young of a age. Thanks for this. It will always be one of my favorite of yours. Owen and Eden were meant to be together from the being of time. Not so many can say that. They didn't let a fire or their past mistakes come to tear them apart. One fantastic book you don't want to miss.

Whew this story of Owen and Eden was heartbreaking. The fires the deaths seem to keep coming. The families losing their homes. I guess it seemed real, since I live in California and we just had so many fires. But their love story was beautiful. Falling in love in high school. Coming back together wasn’t easy. OMG is Declan getting a book. We need to know his story too.

This was a great read. I could do relate to Eden when she loses her father. Every emotion was real and I cried. The love story was written so well. As a reader you wanted Eden and Owen to have their happily ever after. Melody have us a great story of intrigue and obstacles they had to go through and it will keep you guessing!

He is the author of influential articles on statistics education and of several leading texts. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this book is not good at explaining statistical concepts. The writing style is strange and includes errors (I'm not sure when it was decided 100,000 requires a comma in English, but 1,000 does not). Other errors include repeating sentences in problems or answers being incorrect. A character in one problem is named Emily, but ends up as Julie by the end of the problem. The writing style is also somewhat inappropriate and unprofessional. One problem gives an example of studying the effect of calcium on young girls, so an experiment is created where investigators spike the punch at a summer camp for girls. Another problem asks you to explain why it would be "stupid" to not sell more than 10 of something.The problems at the end of the sections are the most frustrating part. Oftentimes, questions will refer to the previous problem, a problem within the section, or a problem from an entirely different section just to have you answer the same questions as those problems. One problem even referred to a problem in the previous section which referred to a previous problem in that section. Talk about problem-ception, just combine the problems into one. Other problems require you to source data from the internet or from some other unknown source (How do I make a scatterplot without the necessary data?! The book doesn't even tell me where to get it from!).The answers to the odd numbered problems are given in the back of the book, at least partially. Some parts of answers are mysteriously left out and skipped. Some answers are just flat out incorrect. For example, one question asks what blood type children will have if the parents have B and O alleles. Obviously, it would be B or O blood type, but the back of the book says it should be A or O. If you plan on teaching yourself statistics with this book, you will be left scratching your head wondering if your math is incorrect or if the book is incorrect.I'm not sure what teachers and professors see in this book, but it is simply not good. It seems as if the authors merely pumped this book out to make a quick buck, put little thought or care into the material, and stamped it as the "up to date edition". Perhaps it is the only Intro to Statistics book on the market? Anyway, I will be returning this book.

The initial access code was expired/invalid. Reading other reviews this does not appear to be an isolated event. After a few emails and phone calls Amazon is allowing me to keep the book with the expired code until the new book arrives. Book is not well written, explanations and examples can be difficult to follow. Not helpful at all with integrating the use of graphing calculator. If you need the access code for your course work I would recommend ordering a used book at a much cheaper price and purchasing the access code directly from the Macmillan Higher Education website.

The kindle version is really difficult to understand. Its only useful for a bit of starting information to get a feel for the concepts, but their example calculations and equations are really hard to follow or understand. Also, there does not seem to be a very strong "flow" with this book as in calculus text books I've read. In calculus text books its easy to back track each problem and see how exactly an equation is used, but I don't get that ease of use AT ALL with this book. Also, there are typos with a few of the equations themselves. x̄ was written as something else and I spend a good bit of time trying to find out what it meant. For the amount of money I spent, and with all the other math textbooks I have read, I expected much more from the book. I barely use it at all and depend almost entirely on my statistics notes, so why did I even bother with buying this book?

Book was not only costly, but shipped very slow and came with NO ACCESS CODE that was guaranteed. I am not able to do my assignments now that I have put off waiting for the book with it's access.The book itself is very difficult to understand and requires you to read over it all several times. It's poorly written with little examples and explanation that you're forced to look online to better help yourself to understand which is annoying.

It's an amazing introductory statistics book with great details and straightforward explanations. I used the 6th edition for my stats class at grad school, and now I bought this as a reference book for my research work.I bought it from the seller green_leaves. Amazingly, it was eligible for same day delivery. Ordered it last night and got delivered this noon! It's in a brand new condition with the valid online activation code, and it's much cheaper than the default Amazon fulfilled price! Love it!

Book does not do well in explaining statistical concepts. There are tons of example questions in the book, however none of them have answers or how to actually solve the problems associated with them.

Would not recommend. Paid almost $20 for next day shipping but pacakage arrived a day late. This is a loose leaf book which in itself is not a big deal to me. However, the pages are hole punched so close to the edge that merely turning a page, no matter how carefully, tears the punched holes 8 times out of 10. I had to buy reinforcement label stickers from Office Depot and apply them to countless pages just to be able to turn them without tearing. It’s frustrating to spend $150 + on a purchase and receive something that can’t even hold up to extremely light use.

I only rented this book, but have to say that I really liked it's explanations and the simplification. Didn't use the CD/software so can't comment on that. Was a little intimidated as it's a heavy book and looks a bit "scary" but I found the content to be great.

I was hoping for an overview of 70 years of Porsche history. I was not expecting this book to be "Excellence was Expected" but this is pretty much a corporate Puff piece. As such it is much like a greatly expanded issue of "Christophorus" magazine...and I imagine that was the intent. Many nice pictures but the 356 and 911 dominate the proceedings...to be expected, but there is only one (1) photo of a Boxster and other models get similarly slighted. Also several pages devoted to former Porsche executives and/or celebrities that own Porsches. I'm glad to add it to my Porsche library (I am a completist after all) but there isn't much here beyond a lot of pretty pictures. More artsy than technical, if that's what you're looking for then this may be the book for you. It does look nice on the coffee table.

I recommend this to any Disney fan who likes to know the back story of theme park attractions and wants to immerse themselves a little bit more into this magical world that Walt Disney has created for us.Definitely will make you appreciate the attractions described in this book a whole lot more on your next Disney visit.

Love this book, really goes behind the scenes and gives you an in depth look at some of Walt Disney World's attractions!

i so, SO wanted to like this series (i'm referring to both volume 1 and 2). as a history buff and a disney park scholar, the perspective that a high school history teacher would bring to some of the details of walt disney world sounded very intriguing. alas, it was not to be. three points:1.) both books contain numerous errors, although i would not go so far as to say misinformation. it's clear that the author's research needed some fact checking in areas. just because you read a tidbit about a theme park on a blog doesn't make it true. the author also made surmises that can easily be proved false (or true) with available evidence. "perhaps the imagineers intended..." can be cleared up by finding the right quote and confirming their intentions. not always, but in the case of the material in these books, often.2.) these books are written by a high school history teacher. as a result, the reading level... makes one feel like a high schooler. for his students, i get it. the tone, the humor, the repetition, the chunking; it's all required for that audience to digest. but this is supposedly material aimed at literate adults.3.) what the book series needs most of all is an editor. one might think editors "make things shorter" but really editing for length is a small part of the job. an editor works on clarity, unifying tone, eliminating repetitious word choice and phrasing, reordering confusing sentence and clause structure, etc. it's the polish that makes for a completed work. i see no editor credited in the front matter, and it's obvious one was not employed. that fact made these books downright painful to get through at times.in conclusion, there is very little new information here, and what we're left with is presented rather poorly. the best material was the analysis of the main street USA concept in the context of the semi-urbanization of small towns at the turn of the century. the worst was probably the storybook circus section, although it's tough to say. the spaceship earth chapter had me pulling hair out in places.

Another well-researched, in-depth review of classic Disney attractions. I'm 'thanking the Phoenicians' for this one.
