About the Author

Thomas V. Brisco is Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Hardin-Simmons University. He also serves as Professor of Old Testament and Archaeology. Dr. Brisco came to Hardin-Simmons from Baylor University where he taught in the Department of Religion. Prior to that, Dr. Brisco taught for 21 years at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, serving also as the Associate Dean for the Doctor of Philosophy Program. Dr. Brisco specializes in ancient near eastern history and archaeology particularly as these subjects relate to the historical, cultural, and geographical setting of the Bible. His archaeological field experience includes work at Tel Aphek and Tel Batash in Israel. An ordained minister with pastoral experience, Dr. Brisco has served as interim pastor in over 20 churches in Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, and Switzerland.

This is the first stand-alone Bible atlas that I have owned, so I can't really compare it to others. I must say, though, that it is a very high-quality product, with not just maps of different areas during different times, but also lots of information and background. I am very pleased with it, and use it often when studying the Bible to see where the different events happened. Highly recommended.

Wow, really torn on 5 star or 1. This book is fantastic, but there’s an index and NO PAGE NUMBERS. Crazy frustrating given it’s a reference book. Still the text is great.

I purchased this on the recommendation of a local seminary professor and I couldn't be happier about it. The atlas is laid out in an organized fashion progressing from Old Testament history into the New Testament period. It's just chock full of great maps, along with so much helpful information about the cultural and living elements of the times, along with important historical events. At $29.00 this is quite a bargain, and I can't imagine how anyone would be disappointed for the purchase.

I originally purchased this book in 2006 for a seminary class. Over ten years later I still use it. The maps--all in color--are easy to read and linked to passages of scripture, so that as you're reading along and encounter a place name (e.g., the allotment of land in Joshua) you can locate the place quickly and easily. The articles are informative. The paper quality is excellent. Well done Holman on a great product!

This is by far the best of the best when it comes to bible maps when compared to the various other sources I have looked at... we are reading through F LaGard Smiths's Chronological Bible.. and the Holman's atlas is the perfect companion to go along with it...Their maps are so detailed and very easy to use....

Love this atlas. In reading the Bible and noting the places it mentions it is insightful to check it out for location and how this may have impacted the story more. Have purchased it and given away for gifts.

This is a fantastic volume. I have just finished a year long class in Old Testament Bible Study and only wish I had known about this book at the beginning of the class instead of almost at the end. To call it an atlas is such an understatement. The very readable text alongside the well done maps of the geography being discussed greatly enhanced my understanding of the Assyrian and Babylonian deportations, the Syro-Ephramite war and the Maccabean revolt and helped keep all the characters straight. An invaluable resource material which I look forward to using next year in my New Testament studies.

This was a surprisingly enjoyable book to read. Yes, it has lots of wonderful colorful pictures. And yes, there's a wonderful ratio of graphics to words. But more importantly, I think tying the geographical movements to actual description of those things is fantastic. There's nothing more helpful, learning-wise, than putting pictures next to words.This book takes you through the earliest days of history, tracing the movement of man's ancestors through Noah to Abraham, and then in detail through the history of Israel. Most pastors -- let alone laypeople -- couldn't find Moab on a map, or define where Israel is in relation to Assyria or Babylon or Egypt. This book rectifies all of that, in an enjoyable way.

The cover information of this book states that it is a translation of a book published in Dutch, "Veroudering vertragen". This book was published in 2015, which makes it likely that important progress has been in longevity research since then. It would be useful if the author could comment on this issue.

Very informative and well written. Smart guy!

What an interesting book. The author explains complicated processes as though it is child's play. I finally understand how our body works at a cellular level and it all makes sense. This guy should be a teacher. If you are looking for a book about aging well (and everyone should be!) and aging without illness to enjoy the longest, healthiest life you can, this will help you get there. Thank you Dr. Verburgh.

Really gives a great overview of how our body work and ages. It cites a lot of studies and how some people live longer. I highly recommend this book and it has prompted me to change some of my eating habits.

This book is packed with trivia about the Galaxy Far, Far Away, most of it from the six films (so far) and The Clone Wars and Rebels series. Some details, however, seem to have been written expressly for this book, which adds fascinating new facts to the Star Wars universe. No matter how big a fan you are, you're sure to learn a few things. It doesn't duplicate much that's in Ultimate Star Wars (which is more of an encyclopedia rather than a trivia book), and as this book is aimed at a younger audience, it has an entirely different feel to it. A fun read for SW fans of all ages!

My 10 year old nephew is like many boys and loves everything Star Wars. He has a couuple of books similiar to this, but this was a new one. He was thrilled to receive the book, read and look at pictures. Warning- you may have to listen to a lot of Star Wars info if you give this to an enthusiastic reader.

I bought this for my 7-year-old grandson who is a big Star Wars fan, of course. I was afraid it was too advanced for him, but he loves it. He comments on how it has all the things he wants to know about Star Wars. He is impressed, and I recommend this book highly for all the fans out there! Well iIlustrated, too.

I should really say my 11-yr-old grandson loved it and would give it 5 stars. He had just seen Star Wars. (It was a gift, and I, personally never read it. But he rarely ever gets excited over a gift from us, no matter what the cost.)

Got this for my little star wars junkie and HE LOVES IT! He has informed me of many things I didn't know and now I do.

Pretty cool book. I am not a compelte know it all on Star Wars but I know enough. The information that I read was accurate and true to the Star Wars Saga. Great collection piece and looks awesome next to my Funko collection. My son loves looking at it. Very clear pictures.

Our grandson is 7 and is a Star Wars fan--has a SW comforter, bed pillow cover, etc. This book has given him hours of entertainment.

Gorgeous, sturdy book. My 11-year-old daughter has had her face buried in it since the moment she received it. Huge, clear pictures and oodles of Star Wars goodness.
