About the Author
Mary L. Barrow has been an attorney for more than 30 years. She has a BA from Brown University and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania law school. For many years she practiced estate planning, probate and trust law, in three different states, both as a partner in a large law firm and as the principal of a boutique trusts & estates firm. She has helped numerous clients to define their goals and objectives, and then implement those wishes as simply and efficiently as possible through their estate plans. In 2009 Attorney Barrow was approached by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of South Carolina Beaufort to create a course for its members on the topic of trusts. She was delighted to teach the resulting course for a number of years. Attorney Barrow enjoys speaking to groups of non-lawyers on estate planning topics.

This is a book to read when you are getting ready to meet with an estate planning attorney to plan your estate for the first time. Those looking for complex strategies should look elsewhere.
Easy read, and full of information. Unfortunately it doesn't discuss taxes, which I thought it would. But from a planning perspective I'm very glad I read it and feel that I learned a lot.
This book was helpful to me. It was well written and easy to understand. I definitely learned a few things, however, I think it could have been more comprehensive. For example, it discussed revocable living trusts, but did not even mention that there are irrevocable living trusts as well. I will need to purchase and read additional books before hiring an attorney for my estate planning.
Book gives a good overview of estates without being verbose. If you’re looking for details and depth to the subject, this is not what you want.
Very helpful, very practical guide to an important subject. I learned a lot from this book. It is reader-friendly, which cannot be said of other books I've read on the same subject.
This book seems to cover everything at a basic level. I did learn that my dad and I had made an error in adding me to his bank account.
Well written and informative, with good examples to illustrate points. Short and to the point but definitely just a starter into the world of estate planning.
