Phenomenal book. Dr. Bevins truly puts the importance of Common Prayer into perspective. A must have for Anglicans, and a great resource for all Christians who want to develop a better understanding of the importance of liturgical worship, both as an historical fact and a spiritual reality.
This claims to be a guide to the Book of Common Prayer. It sort of is, but it's more of an abridged version of the BCP with intros to each chapter. This book does not instruct on how to use actual BCP, which is what I was looking for and expecting from the title of this book.
This was a helpful look at Common Prayer & in particular the Book of Common Prayer. Coming from a tradition the does not necessarily use resources such as the Book of Common Prayer I wanted to learn more about it. This served to further intrigue me & I will be picking up a Book of Common Prayer as an aid & resource in my prayer life & in my seeking to shepherd the hearts of those I serve.
As one who comes from a non liturgical background I find this book to be very helpful in shaping my prayer life. The history of the Book of Common Prayer is also very interesting.

Not really a "field guide" because it doesn't explain what the BKP actually is, in practical terms...actually, it barely addresses BCP...but this book does put the BCP in some sort of context and it does address prayer in general. It is intelligent, moving, and substantial ..
I like this and I feel that when I was in a Parish teaching children and adults for Confirmation class this would have been good to give to my students. Too bad it had to be written by a member of one of the newer members of yhe Anglocan Communion.
Just started to read so my review would be limited,BUT a favorite pastor recommended it so I know it will be worthwhile
