About the Author

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1904.  After attending Dartmouth College and Oxford University, he began a career in advertising.  His advertising cartoons, featuring Quick, Henry, the Flit!,  appeared in several leading American magazines.  Dr. Seuss's first children's book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, hit the market in 1937, and the world of children's literature was changed forever!  In 1957, Seuss's The Cat in the Hat became the prototype for one of Random House's best- selling series, Beginner Books.  This popular series combined engaging stories with outrageous illustrations and playful sounds to teach basic reading skills.  Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents.  In the process, he helped kids learn to read. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 and three Academy Awards, Seuss was the author and illustrator of 44 children's books, some of which have been made into audiocassettes, animated television specials, and videos for children of all ages.  Even after his death in 1991, Dr. Seuss continues to be the best-selling author of children's books in the world.

We love Dr. Seuss and we wanted this CD, and I was really excite to see John Lithgow as a narrator because he is my favorite actor and performer.PROS- John Lithgow did an amazing job- Some famous storiesCONS- Other narrators were not really exciting. I can actually do a much more articulated and attention catching job that will pin toddlers and kids to their chairs- Two CDs with zero track information on them. Where is Lorax? Which CD has Cat? No idea.- Music kind of ridiculous, going on an off randomly and not supporting the story. NPR's Snap Judgement does a much better job doing radio pieces, you can literally visualize rooms, scenes and other details by just listening to their sound support, and they aim for adult listeners. I definitely expected that from a kiddo CD.I will test it on my kid and update my review. Right now I'm guessing that she'll lose interest soon.

These are seriously great stories read aloud beautifully. I listen to a lot of audio books, and this is one of the best children's audio sets I've ever heard. The stories are read aloud by great actors/story tellers. It's very entertaining for adults, too. Many of the stories are new to me, and very good. They open up a lot of questions for 4 year olds and their parents; more things to talk about in the car!

Play this while my kids play with their blocks, ages 1 and 2. We have read a few of these books, so they are familiar with a few of the stories and they love listening! Especially to The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Perfect for a long road trip! I brought along a couple of the Dr Suess books & my daughter followed along in the car. These stories are lively. I have some other audio CDs that are more sleepy. These are great for staying awake

I was so surprise to received such a worn out CD from the library. I would like to have a credit of $10 for this tape. Paying $20 is over price!

Excellent read.This book contains two different writing styles, both boasting an admirable command of the English language. The first parades more of an artistic personality and the other displays a bit more the training of an intellectual and free thinker. They are two books in one, the first half is written by Asifa, and the second by her fantastic companion, David.Asifa and David were thirsty for an adventure, consequently they joined the Peace Corps (PC), and page by page they lead us through their journey. In the comfort of my air conditioned and while lapping at my Colombian coffee I laugh, wonder, worry, and learn, alongside them, through the magic of the leaves of their book.Asifa learned that these “new relatives” that she just met wash their behinds with their left hand, therefore, they only eat with their right . . . but, she “has seen those left hands come up to help the right hand from time to time.”David feels that Chronic beerlessness is a serious problem in the village, leading to weight loss and a disturbing clarity of mind. And, apparently, while in Mali, David, instead of dreaming of fame and fortune he dreamt of clean horizontal surfaces.After reading this book I am so glad that I am not a woman, specially a woman giving birth in Mali, because : “ . . . as she nonchalantly grabbed a pair of surgical scissors and just snipped the vagina of the birthing mother. No anesthetic, no antiseptic, no warning. . .”

My husband and I both could not put this book down. When Asifa's delightful stories about her experiences as a senior in the Peace Corps came to an end, we could not wait to read David's.I thought Asifa did a masterful job of describing both her surroundings and her own reactions to them. I could feel her frustration as she dealt with the problems of rural and even urban Mali. David's writing was more of a practical explanation of what was going on, but it drew us into his feelings as well. Having these two different sets of insight about what was going on gave a much fuller picture than one would have done by itself.An excellent look at today's Peace Corps and how two older Americans worked within it.

Ever think about what it would be like to join the Peace Corp? Well, this is your chance to share Asifa's adventures but stay comfy and cosy in your favorite armchair. The author brought to life the adventure, cultural experiences and at times potential danger of living in a foreign country. She shared her struggle to learn the language, culture and how to navigate the everyday necessities of life -- food, water, cooking, bathroom....wait a minute, what bathroom? It's certainly not our understanding of the necessities of life. The tales of travel hardships, the colorful characters she met and the people she helped gave this book a vividness I enjoyed very much and helped me to understand how much the people of Peace Corp are giving to the world.

This is a wonderful book. Asifa and David tell the story of their choice to join the Peace Corps and serve in Mali, West Africa with great heart and humor. At an age when many are preparing for retirement, this couple joins young volunteers in one of the poorest countries in the world. But they discover a kind of wealth as they struggle to find a means of being of service in a way that really matters. Along the way, they encouonter fascinating people, elaborate greeting rituals, joking cousins, and ultimately friends and family. And did I mention the dust and the heat? The picture of Asifa brooming the dust out the apartment daily and David riding his bike to work under a 120 degree sky remain emblazened in my brain. I am just left, however, with a feeling of immense gratitude for getting to know Mali and Malians.

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I'm packing for Peace Corps The Gambia and although it's not the same country, it is comforting reading stories from RPCVs and the journey they went through. Before reading this Mali wasn't a country on my to visit list and now it's one that I look forward to visiting hopefully in the near future.

Wonderful story about a couple's time in the Peace Corps in West Africa. Well written with a glimpse into what it's like to be thrown into a completely different set of circumstances while trying to make a difference in people's lives. Very interesting and hard to put down. Thank you Asifa and David!

The story of a Peace Corp adventure in Mali taken by an upper-middle-age couple. Their honesty--about themselves--as they tell their story, and the sometimes humorous learning experiences made this book difficult to put down! I learned of another culture in a most enjoyable way.

I learned so much about the Peace Corps and so enjoyed the humor mixed in with all of their experiences. Wonderful writers, great that there are also photos throughout the book.

It's very simple to make and only contains 4 ingredients: Coconut Oil; Jojoba oil; Lavender oil and a couple drops of rose oil.The instructions are simple and I have all the ingredients so this should be a fun project. It's also a nice project to do with my daughter when she's not busy doing homework. She's in her second semester of college and she's got a full course load.I'm excited about starting this project. I'm so glad I downloaded this eBook. It is full of great ideas!

It is a wonderful book fully packed with all information required in making homemade soaps, lotion and shampoo. It is so wonderful to look beautiful and have smooth and younger looking skin when using natural soap and lotion which is chemical free and therefore less harmful. The book has the required recipes and and how to go about when making the soaps and lotions. It is very clear and the procedures are well given. Good work of the author. A nice read!

Was expecting a set of books, but they took all the best parts and put them in 1 book with 4 sections. And let me tell you, they are packed full of great recipes and ideas. I am extremely pleased with this book.

I love this book, although not what I was expecting. The item was advertised as a set of books, but it is a copulation of information divided into four sections. However, full of good information.

I was excited that it was the books in one and then when I got it was sad that is such a small book. Though I've just done a glance through the only real benefit I can see for me is that there are shampoo recipes which I haven't done yet. That being said I'd you are an absolute beginner this is prefect for you.

I love this bundle! I had to read through it all at once because I got so excited about the possibilities. I bought it on a whim thinking I would try it 'sometime' but I can't wait to try many of these recipes. I like the easy way that the author writes in clear and concise way. Directions are thorough and easy to follow with a good flow to them. I will update my review when I've tried at least three of the recipes. Looking forward to experimenting,

I have not used this book yet, but it looks like the instructions are very clear and there are a lot of different ideas on various soaps, etc.
