"In You Can Do All Things, Allan, creator of The Latest Kate, includes what has been helpful for her in dealing with her feelings of inadequacy, which might be helpful for you, too:“Choosing to be my authentic self; not reshaping myself to fit someone else’s standard, whether that’s my physical appearance or behavior.Only embracing relationships where I am respected and accepted for who I am.Being honest with myself and my loved ones about my insecurities and challenges; owning it.Showing the kindness and understanding to myself that I would show a friend.Reframing; looking at past events and choices with understanding and compassion and without judgement.â€You are worthy, and you deserve relationships that are built on respect and kindness, relationships that also nourish you and add to your life. But I know you might not see that or feel it right now.Know that this can and will change. The key is to consider and explore what can help you to get there, to see and feel your inherent worth. Working through Allan’s wise suggestions is a great place to start." - PsychCentral

“Anxiety, stress, and depression can put a damper on anyone's day. This is why a daily mindfulness practice is a must in today's fast-paced stressful world. Kate Allan’s You Can Do All Things combines wisdom, humor, and beautiful, whimsical artwork that can be your daily companion when you feel anxious, inadequate, and overwhelmed. Spending a few minutes every day meditating on TheLatestKate's illustrations and words of wisdom offer encouragement that you can face any challenge that crosses your path. This is a book to open and use over, and over, and over again―a true testament that you are not alone.â€â€•Susyn Reeve, Author of Heart Healing: The Power of Forgiveness to Heal a Broken Heart"Kate Allan’s artwork has always had an incredible positive message that I can’t help but love―and now it’s in book form! As soon as I heard she was putting together a book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. It’s full of beautiful art and encouraging messages that help me to calm my anxiety and get through even the hardest of days." -Becca Anderon, author of Think Happy to Be Happy"I see myself in so much of Kate’s writing―and yet, I haven’t been able to pinpoint and put into words these hurts before. Which to me may be the ultimate sign of an incredible book: when the author articulates something you feel so acutely in your own heart, but haven’t been able to clearly express or truly grasp. In fact, I had many a-ha! moments while reading this beautiful book. I especially love Kate’s hopeful, unique take on hopelessness, and her nuanced view of feeling unworthy in relationships. These insights can have a profound effect on our lives, on our days. Because once we understand ourselves better, we have the power to support ourselves, to find what we need, one step at a time. Through her honest words, uplifting illustrations, and actionable suggestions, Kate also encourages us to keep trying and to keep going. She reminds us that we can indeed persevere, even when things are seemingly awful. You Can Do All Things is like a best friend: real, raw, and generous in its support. It is a book that says, “I hear you,†and “I’m here for you.†It is a book that says, “Yes, you are strong and capable, whether you feel it or not.â€- Margarita Tartakovsky, PsychCentral

I am a therapist in private practice and am so happy this book exists for both friends and clients. I would recommend it for tweens, teenagers and adults. It is helpful when you have anxiety and/or depression to remember you are not alone, and Kate's writing about her experience with depression is profound. Also, Kate Allan's artwork is incredible. I showed it to a tween client and her mother, and they both loved it and ordered it. I showed it two adults today and both of them said, "I know so many people who could benefit from this book." I gave a copy to a friend and ordered two more copies. I probably need to get more copies for presents for other people, and need one on hand for my home and one on hand for my office. It's a mood brightener and so lovely!
This book is so beautiful. I felt the words all the way to my soul, and the images filled me with hope I didnt realize I was starving for.I want to buy a copy for so many people in my life, and I probably will.I bought the kindle version because I was so excited that I just couldn't wait for the hardcover to arrive, and let me tell you, the illustrations deserve to be on display. I plan on ordering the hardcopy for my home.
I’ve been following the author for a while now on tumblr. Her adorable illustrations with positive sayings have got me through quite a few tough times. I was thrilled when I heard she was coming out with a book. While the colorful illustrations are familiar if you’ve been to her tumblr, it’s nice to have a hard copy of them to carry with me. The colors are just as vibrant, with the colored backgrounds extending to the edges of the paper. The paper itself feels nicely like paper, no waxy coating or shininess that color pages usually have. The cover has a lovely soft texture, and it’s a perfect small size. The writing parts feel talking to a friend, and the doodles on the writing page are adorable. The tiny hearts next to the page numbers are such a lovely little touch.
This book is an absolute gem! Kate Allan’s art and words of wisdom have helped me so much over the past year. This book is an amazing collection of her uplifting and wonderful thoughts. As a book, it’s much more comprehensive than I expected. The binding is of high quality and the coloring in the pages is rich and beautiful. This book is a treasure: uplifting art and words well-packaged in a quality book. A wonderful gift for yourself or someone you love.
I pre-ordered this book so I was very excited to get it into my hands as soon as it was released. As someone who suffers from anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues, I feel this book was just made for me. As soon as I opened the book I was greeted with beautiful illustrations and cute animals who believed in me, and made me feel validated. The writing is wonderful as well, and very down to earth. I love all the CBT techniques that the author gives to deal with the problems that plague me every day.I most likely will be giving copies of this to my dear friends, I know that they could also benefit from this book. Even flipping through the book randomly I find very insightful and beautiful sayings and illustrations throughout. I'm so glad this book exists. Highly recommended! This is not your typical self-help book, but it's worth every penny.Thankyou for making this book.
I bought this for myself, but my 8 year has been reading it also. It has sparked many discussions about feelings and how to deal with them. That alone made it worth the purchase price. The pictures are lovely, in and of themselves, but coupled with the phrases, this truly becomes a book that can help on the bad days. The phrases aren't trite and meaningless, they don't give platitudes like "Just try harder!" or other such nonsense. It's apparent that they were written by someone who understands the struggle but still finds the good. That makes it easier to find the goodness in yourself.
I've been following The Latest Kate on Instagram since I found her page. I absolutely adore her work. It's like Lisa Frank, but for depressed and anxious people. It's colorful, cute, yet real and raw at the same time. I get her daily emails as well, and I still needed this book. Having something concrete in my hands, that I can see and feel when I'm triggered, is so helpful. Every day, I randomly open the book to whatever page it lands on, and those are my affirmations for the day. I've been in counseling for years, and my therapist preaches often about affirmations and I think it's so important to take a saying, and use that to affirm yourself that you are worthy and you are wonderful. Worth every penny, especially if you suffer from mental disorders that distort your thinking. 5 stars and beyond!
I've followed The Latest Kate's art online for a while now and recently became one of her Patreon supporters, so I was thrilled to get my hands on this book. It did not disappoint. As someone who often struggles with depressive and anxious thoughts (and someone who loves adorable animal art), I find this book an extremely helpful tool for troubleshooting my misbehaving brain. It contains personal stories from the artist/author about her own struggles with anxiety and depression, helpful coping tips and strategies for dealing with negative thoughts and feelings, and, of course, colorful art of animals, trees, stars, etc., paired with gentle words about self-compassion. The book is positive and encouraging without being preachy. Since it is written by someone with anxiety and depressive symptoms, it does not invalidate the suffering caused by these illnesses or minimize the challenges involved in overcoming them. Instead, it patiently, lovingly meets sufferers where they are, validating their struggles and suggesting possible solutions. I've been turning to the art and words in this book for encouragement and support when I've been feeling low lately, and I expect that I will continue to do so for years to come. Many thanks to Kate for her hopeful and inspiring art and for sharing her story.
