The book was a little bloody story because snowboarders get hurt very often.The setting of the story was during the winter in the mountains. The main characters of the book were Sherman Poppern, Bob Webber, and Dimitrije Milovich. My favorite character was Sherman Poppoen because she was good at snowboarding and she did tricks too. My favorite part of the book was when it told you what you need to snowboard. I would recommend this boook to my friends, maybe they will try it once. However, I will tell them to read it if they are 13 years old or more because if they are younger they will get hurt.

This book doesn't really teach you how to snowboard, but it does contain some good history and facts. Interesting to read.

This book brought back a lot of great memories. While I was in high school, I was a member of the Sea Cadet unit mentioned in the Introduction and pictured in Chapter 6 (I'm not in the picture). I had the privilege of drilling with VP-90 during their transition from P-2 Neptunes to P-3 Orions, and even got to fly on a mission on the P-3.After college, I became a member of the 126th Air Refueling Wing (ARW), Illinois Air National Guard at Chicago-O'Hare Airport. Since the 126ARW was assigned to Strategic Air Command, we frequently received classified documents and equipment via couriers. The courier aircraft wouldn't fly into O'Hare; they went into NAS Glenview. As the junior officer assigned to the Plans section, I frequently had to drive to Glenview to meet the courier and pick up whatever they had for us. We never had a firm time for the courier, just a block time, i.e., between 1300-1600, so I spent a lot of time in Base Operations, and got to meet an number of Navy and Marine aviators.There is a big hole in this book concerning the history of Glenview, specifically the role it played when other Naval Air Reserve bases closed and consolidated their operations at Glenview. I remember when the squadrons from Minneapolis moved to Glenview; there was a weekend commuter flight, a VR-51 C-118, that came in on Friday night and left Sunday afternoon that brought reservists in for drill. Also, Glenview was the air hub for moving nuclear weapons when the Nike missiles around Chicago were deactivated in the early 70's. Lastly, there weren't many pictures of the large aircraft flown at Glenview during the 60s and early 70s, including the P-2 Neptune (various models) flown by VP-60 and VP-90; the last C-119 aircraft flown by the Marines; the P-3 Orions with both squadrons; and the factory new KC-130s flown by the Marines.I was reassigned from O'Hare to Andrews AFB in 1989 and never got back to Glenview before it closed, but this book really did a good job of refreshing my memory.

I grew up close to the flight line;At least 28 years I noticed every plane, every landing. The water tower on Dewes stood right on the flight line, and the Corsairs, the jet fighters, almost every type of plane, used the tower as a beacon. I went to bed almost every night hearing the mechanics working on the war planes.When I was four I saw four parachutists land in view of my bedroom window. When I was eight I saw a Corsair go down right next to a neighbor, far off the flight path. The pilot walked away. We saw the Blue Angels practice and fly for the 4th of July. Even the Air Force Thunderbirds flew into Glenview NAS (Naval Air Station). But I never got a chance to know the inner workings of the Base until this book by Beverly Roberts Dawson came out in 2007, dedicated to all who served here from 1937 to 1995, most of them reservists. But every month, 6,000 out of 8,000 pilots flying off of carriers were reservists. I got to see the NAS from the War Department view,from World War II to the Post War and the Korean War, to the Cold War Years. I loved 'A Navy Pilots Creed." In 1976 the Army flew Huey Helicopters here. I was fascinated by all the amazing photos which told stories of their own. President Eisenhower landed here. The book is only 128 pages, but the font is very small. There are thousands of key and informative details. I ran into the Rugen family farm (established in 1850) fields to watch the Corsairs thunder over my head, gunning the engine to get over that fence I stood next to. My father was a surgeon and officer in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. There are so many people--thousands and maybe more--who would love to read this.

I grew up near Glenview Naval Air Station and was saddened when it closed. My dad took me to the air shows, and I remember the wide variety of planes. This brought back those warm memories.

Excellent photos but narrative is hodge-podge and incomplete. Spent time at the base and author does not cover any in-depth stories which amplify pics.

My father-in-law was a member of the Greatest Generation and served as a trooper of the 99th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop, 99th Infantry Division, from its formation in late 1942 through the end of WWII. Part of his Recon Troop provided support to elements of the 394th Infantry Regiment, forward of Elsenborn Ridge in the opening days of the Battle of the Bulge. He never talked about the war with his family until he reached age 75 and then I heard WWII stories from this WWII veteran that later came to life as I read this book. He once described the 394th I&R Platoon as "about 20 guys, and they were cut off, and they held out, and they held up the whole German advance". That was all I knew until read this book.As I was reading some other sections of this book I knew what was about to come next because I had already heard it from someone who was there while it was happening. Bringing in other aspects of the 99th division during WWII was important to the reader. My father-in-law attended nearly every 99th reunion after the end of the war and he spent a lot of time gathering information and stories from his fellow vets - not about the grand strategy of battle but rather about what happened to small units of men. In the late 1990s and early 2000s I personally witnessed aspiring authors and TV crews come to my father-in-law seeking info about the 99th Division and the Battle of the Bulge.So what if maybe the author, Alex Kershaw, did not get every single, minutia historical item 100% technically correct. Other reviewer's criticisms of the author's choice of including additional aspects of WWII is unreasonable. This story is accurate and compelling from a veteran's viewpoint.

By focusing on a small combat platoon and its individual members rather than a larger military unit, theater of operations or the global nature of warfare, the author did a most commendable job of presenting a horrible affair into a collage of personal experiences and viewpoints.

Well written, the narrative flows smoothly. America's greatest generation bar none. What these guys went through is remarkable to say the least. Your in the midst of a shooting war, your fox hole is filling with snow, your fingers and toes are turning blue and here comes enemy tanks with troops behind them - and your rifle is frozen solid. But that's the just the start of your troubles. . . . This is a real page turner.

I've spent a lot of time researching WWII, especially the European theater. This book tells the story of the lynchpin heroes who held during the worst of the German onslaught. Compellingly written, as if it were an action thriller, not a documentary. Much like Steven Ambrose's work, much of the story comes from direct interviews with those on the front line, including Lieutenant Lyle Bouck. One of the best books I've read on the war.

This is a really great book and a true story of the battle that took place on 12/16/1944 that everyone should read. The men were very young but the most important thing is that they were brave, looking at defeat but never once thought of their own peril. Very exceptional men doing their job - and then some. They should have been recognized as soon as the war was over and yet they had to wait 35 years for recognition of their great courage.

I wasn't sure how much I would like this book when I started, but it was great. I have read many books about this battle, this one gave some insight I had never known before. Great book.

Alex Kershaw is a national treasure. His writings on World War II are the most thoroughly researched, most clearly and best written I have encountered. He is a master of making WWII history come to life through interviews and detail. If you're interested in WWII and haven't read anything by Kershaw, The Longest Winter is one of his best.

Absolutely amazing story! This should honestly be a movie! Author writes in a way that's very easy to understand and follow. This couldn't have been written better in my opinion!

I think it's important for people to realize this is a book for all ages, for all stages of your career. I am considered a "Young Professional" who perhaps just found my career in technology. I'm about 7 months into my new job and read this book to consider what advice might be found within. This book gives insightful information and examples for mentorship, growth, playing nice in the workplace, and what a successful professional looks like. I highly recommend this book and like many others, I will be dishing it out to friends.

It’s hard for me to count the number of times over the last 20 years my friends (from either my business or undergraduate school) and I have discussed the need for a book just like this. The idea is so simple, and while many writers have tried, none have cut to the heart of what actually matters in navigating one’s early career the way Jim does here. It’s a pragmatic, sensible and honest book, with real world perspectives strangely enough rarely taught in even the top MBA programs. I hope readers can appreciate the insights Jim offers that, unfortunately, isn’t always understood absent real world experience.

This book does a very good job giving valuable action steps to growing your career. As a highly motivated young professional, this book gave sound advice to begin implementing in my life. The section on mentors was especially valuable. I highly recommend for any young professional, especially those considering a job change or beginning their career fresh out of school.

One of the more complete career guides I've seen and I have read a lot. Targeted for and best for someone at the earlier stages of their career, but useful for anyone even at more senior levels.

The Career Playbook is a must read for any young professionals looking to gain an edge. I can't tell you how helpful it is to hear a more modernized take on career progression, especially for those of us trying to navigate the startup world. TCP lays out practical strategies and exercises to maximize one's effectiveness in relationship building, career advancement, and (most importantly) being happy overall. I'm happy to have it in my toolbox going forward. Awesome job!

waiting for kids to read it ...i am not holding my breath

A basic career advice book with little substance.

This is really a great book. I particularly loved the specifics Jim gives in terms of how to write e-mails, how to address people, etc. -- very actionable tips in addition to general principles. Many are lucky enough to have mentors or parents helping them through these questions. But not everybody is so fortunate, so I think the book is especially vital in that light.

This book helped my 12 year old daughter figure out how to act and react to situations in Junior High. She enjoyed it and employs the strategies it suggests.

I really like the bird analogies. It’s a fun read. I’m currently reading it with my 4 and 7 year olds. Even my 4 year old is able to grasp the concepts and both children have been practicing what we’ve learned. It’s really neat to watch them pick up on these kinds of skills!!

My daughter is only six years old, but she battles not so much with bullies, but with her perception of what people think of her based on how personally she takes things they say. I didn't find the part about dealing with the bullies too useful at this age, although sounded great for older kids because it is very broken down from why they might be acting out to what exactly you could say, but the information on how to deal with your own thoughts and realize when you or your child might have "everything is terrible" thoughts and how to deal with them is outstanding. I always say "try to stay and think positive and look at the bright side" but the tools they have here and the specific examples are broken down in a much more useful way that helps them understand HOW to make something positive. Being so young, I'm hoping she can adapt these tools and build on them for the rest of her life. Some of this would even be helpful for adults that are always seeing the bad side and expecting the worst. Reading it with her helps me to reinforce the ideas later on the way they explained it and I can also add a few examples of my own that are personally fit to her issues. The Thought Chop and But Twist are very strong tools that can change so much. For those two tools alone, I give this five stars, but there is so much more information in here to help kids deal with life. Not everything will apply to your situation, but find the stuff that does and you won't be sorry.

I've used "Speak Up and Get Along" as an in-class textbook for my Karate students, both children and adults, with great success.The simple lessons and role-play exercises are easy to understand, and simple to use, even with children who are just starting to read. The organization of the book, using various types of birds as images to illustrate an entire suite of social skills, is very helpful as well -- the tools of the Blue Jay are all about being assertive when you need to. I've recommended this book to a number of my professional colleagues, many of whom are using it with their students (and children) as well.A useful companion volume is "Sticks and Stones", also by Scott Cooper. It shares the same basic structure, with additional explanations, scripts for parents/teachers, and additional role-plays.A word about the role-plays: be prepared to practice with them several times to really internalize the skills involved. Running through them once or twice and then just moving on to the next thing is won't get you very far in acquiring usable skills from the text. Practice with them over and over, just as you would to learn a new martial arts technique. Don't confuse understanding the various tools here with the ability to actually use them -- that takes dedicated practice.

My 8 year old son and I are reading this book together right now. We take turn reading page by page and have a good conversation going.

The communication skills in this book are organized into chapters that relate to qualities of different birds. The author did a fine job of explaining why the bird-analogies were chosen as the theme for this book. I think the bird-analogies makes the teaching of these social skills a whole lot more interesting and fun. Also, the analogies may help students remember and apply the skills better.

We had been renewing this book from the library for many months, and I knew we had to have our own copy. It's my grandchild's fav book. She requests reading some of it when she has sleepovers at Nana's. How to speak up, resolve conflict, end teasing and bullying, start a conversation, are some of the topics covered. It's written for children, but all ages benefit from using the tools from this "toolbox".

It is hard to come up with a good retort to an unskillful conversation in the midst of what is happening. This book has lots of ideas for brainstorming things to say ahead of time. Helps kind kids stand up for their friends, not just the kids being pushed around.

Do note that most of the favorable reviews are quite old. As a recent newbie to Bermuda, I can tell you that in 2012, most houses now have heat and a/c (be sure to check before you buy/rent of course) and that would seem to eliminate much of the drama that Tracey faced. And yes, there are bugs here in Bermuda. And humidity. It isn't entirely unlike the Southern United States and especially Florida in those regards. See how I managed to explain that in a couple of sentences? Took Tracey a whole book to do the same, with lots of description of tears and taking to her bed in fits of depression/exhaustion. You may like reading about all of that. But the overly dramatic writing style of this book was not at all my cup of tea.

This book was recommended to us before moving to Bermuda. The good news is that with modern HVAC systems and dehumidifiers, so much of this "mold is everywhere" nonsense is just out of date.

This is an absolute must-read for anyone planning to live in Bermuda! It was fun to read in the first weeks I was on the island, when I still thought it couldn't all be true. But it is. The mould, the cockroaches, the ants, the humidity... In the three and a half years I have been living in Bermuda I experienced most of it. Yes, you do have to put salt in the fridge and rice doesn't work to keep it dry. You need a big fridge in Bermuda to store anything save from ants (sugar, candy, marmalade) and bugs (pasta) and to keep it dry (salt, flour, cookies).Every time I saw the mould on my leather couch, jacket and shoes it reminded me of Tracey's words: keep it moving... (Ventilation is key too.)And yes, my hair was curlier because of the high humidity. But that wasn't the worst thing about it. You start appreciating winter just because it's less humid and you don't sweat with every step you take...But it gets cold in winter too. However, I never sat reading in the walk-in closet like Tracey did because it was the warmest place in the house. I wish I had had a walk-in closet...Thank you very much Tracey for all those useful tips!How I miss Bermuda...Jeannette

I have lived in Bermuda for 40 years and the book is as relevant now than it was back then. Shame there was no update - it would have been fun.

I read this book when a family member moved there and found it very interesting and funny. My family member loved it and found many useful tips in the book for living in Bermuda.

Excellent reading for people planning to visit Bermuda, live there, or simply for those who travel the globe via armchair. Tracey deals with the everday trials and tribulations of life in a way that avoids painting a negative potrait of this island paradise but has enough guts to stress the importance of being able to cope. Well done Tracey! very entertaining!. I can't wait to visit!.

It seems to be boom or bust. So where is an expert who has shown he can navigate this minefield?Meet Michael Benklifa.In his book “Profiting with Iron Condor Options”, Michael Hanania Benklifa shows with clear and reasoned examples and explanations and somewhat counter-intuitive thinking how the option trader can experience more of the thrill of victory with less of the agony of defeat by trading Iron Condor Options in a different way.In most options books, iron condors trades get a few pages. In ” Profiting with Iron Condor Options”, Mr. Benklifa doesn’t hold back in looking at these trades from many points of view.Here are just a few of the things I learned and found most interesting-• Why using a longer time period and giving back most of the credit received will result in more stable return in the long run without as much risk in getting wiped out.• Why trading close to expiration is so risky.• When the best time to enter the trade is and why.• Why managing the risk is just as important as or more important than the return.• Why this strategy should not be considered an income strategy.• Why being out of the market most much of the time is better.• Why no one, not mutual funds, private advisors or hedge funds will invest for you.And this is just the start. On page 106 he states, “There is no point in making a return of 40% if you are going to lose 50% or 100% in a single trade.”On staying in the trade through expiration he states on page 108, “There are no defensive strategies such as adjusting spreads this late in the game. You either take a loss or pray the market will move in your direction. Prayer as a risk management strategy is really the subject of another book.”In short, the book contains some of the best material in print on the subject of Iron Condors. Think Like an Options Trader gives traders a feel for how we must do math in our heads and on our spread sheets to analyze potential trades and manage our iron condor positions.I think I will spend a lot of time re-reading the first two chapters and referring to later chapters depending on what is happening in the options markets.It would be great for the author to publish a second edition with larger graphics, some improved definitions of IC trade sizes and widths as well as model spread sheets and calculators.What the book does for me is introduce me to trading SPX iron condors when implied volatility is spiking instead of trading ICs on more risky individual stocks. He also makes convincing arguments for taking partial profits of 60% to 80% of potential profits on specific trades. Waiting until expiration can be risky and costly, he advises.In other words, iron condors are risky trades that must be managed for reasonable profits, not maximized for the ultimate profits unless you can handle the risks involved.When you go for good trading opportunities and skip the weak and poor opportunities, you’re more likely to achieve your goals. Iron condors are not a monthly income strategy, the author warns. This is because there are months you don’t want to be trading them.Having read numerous books on options and stock trading, I highly recommend Think Like an Options Trader.

I have read a number of option trading books from Sheldon Natenberg's Option Volatility & Pricing to Jeff Augen's books. However, Michael Benklifa's "Profiting with Iron Condor Options" was the most practical and clearly explained option trading book that I have read. He is able to move past theoretical option pricing to more practical trading of the Iron Condor spread. After explaining the strategy, he walks us through a few trades in different market regimes such as 2008 crash, the Greek crisis and runaway equity markets of summer 2009.I think a lot of option trading books are theoretical and explain market making and delta hedging in depth. When they are catered to more retail traders, most option trading books provide a toolkit of various trades to put on depending on the market environment. This is one of the only books that provides a relatively market neutral strategy that can work well in almost all market environments. Trades only need to be setup about once a month and although you need to monitor your position and make adjustments when necessary, it is not necessarily consuming your entire day. I would recommend this book to any investor or trader that wants to invest with less involvement than day trading, and potentially higher returns with less risk.

Great advice from start to finish. As every decent financial guru says (or should say)- have your exit strategy planned before pulling the trigger.Make sure you know the risks and BE SURE to know the consequences and have a plan in place in case the stock price lands BETWEEN the STRIKE PRICES of either leg in your condor. (Your brokerage may not cover you to exercise your long position)I called TD Ameritrade and it's judged "case by case". (Whatever that means). I took it to mean that I needed to close my position immediately since I didn't have 500k to cover my ass in the event I was obligated to deliver shares of a stock I didn't own. Remember, if it blows through BOTH strike prices of your leg then you're covered. You exercise your long position and deliver the short while only losing the difference between the strikes. God help you if it's between strikes and big brother isn't there to front you the money on your long position.If you don't know what I mean, I either didn't explain this very well or you've got no business doing this strategy.Best of luck. I loved the first 80 or so pages of this memoir, and I hope I'm not doing it a disservice by only assigning 3 (really 3 and a half!) stars. It is well-written and rich in detail about a Fresno childhood in the 1970s and 80s. But the subtitle, Growing Up in Other People's Houses, leads you to believe that the foster-care journey will continue throughout the author's childhood -- or at least, throughout the book! In fact, it's over for her by age 8, when she and her sisters find a family that raises them to adulthood. And although McLain is superb at recalling her feelings and attitudes as a child, she never really tackles the larger questions about her final foster family, as well as about her birth mother.The first few chapters describe the three sisters' rocky and rapid progress through a series of unsatisfactory foster homes, following the separate disappearances of their mother and father when the oldest of the three children is just 4 or 5. The pain and loneliness and sheer embarrassment of walking into a new house with new rules and a new dynamic are beautifully described by McLain. The three sisters' closeness and their very limited understanding of what is happening (they must leave one idyllic home because, they are told, their foster parents have to move for work, but later the girls realize that they haven't moved at all, and never learn what happened) are evoked perfectly by McLain.But once the girls find their final placement, with an offbeat couple who buy the girls horses, take them on trips, and generally act like parents (or so it seems to the reader), McLain is less successful at describing why she and her sisters never really feel at home. The foster mother is a rather remote German woman, but the father is a very involved, fun parent who is always launching new projects and schemes. As the girls grow, we learn a lot about their typically tumultuous adolescent years, but we never get why things are so bad with the foster parents that McLain leaves at 19 and never sees them again, not even returning when they are dying. Yet this seems the very heart of the problem of foster care: the inability to bond, after being shunted around too much. And it would seem to be exactly what McLain is trying to communicate in this memoir.The other issue is her relationship with her birth mother, who returns after the children are out of high school and just beginning life on their own. Predictably, they all reunite to try to make a life together. But we don't really know, behind anecdotal incidents, what that relationship turned out to be. The final pages describe each of the sisters' relationship with her mother as McLain sees it, but we're never shown it, so it doesn't feel real to us.I enjoyed this book tremendously and think it needed to be written, but I wish the second half had been as illuminating and detailed as the first.

This true memoir is a poignant, honest recounting of the lives of three beautiful little girls (including the author and her older and younger sister) who were brought into the world then abandoned by their misfit parents. The raw honesty and beautiful imagery with which McClain writes has elevated her as one of my favorite authors, having been first introduced by a friend to her fictionalized account of Ernest Hemingway's first wife in The Paris Wife. After devouring that, I next read Circling the Sun, about the female aviator Beryl Markham whose mother left the harsh life in Kenya, taking her son with her to return to England, leaving 6 yr. old Beryl in the care of her father. Learning that McClain had been abandoned by her own mother, I then had to read this memoir about being foisted with her two sisters into various foster homes. It is at times so heartbreaking I could hardly continue reading, but McClain's mastery and creative language in her telling of various foster care experiences, some of which were sexually and emotionally abusive, brings both laughter and tears. That she survived to go on to be a gifted writer, poet and author is a testimony to her indomitable spirit.

What constitutes a family? Biological connections that are severed early on? Or the strangers who provide a kind of care for years, with no connection other than the physical proximity of living in the same house?The author describes her journey through the foster care system in Fresno County in the 1970s and 1980s, and as she mentioned streets and places within the city and its surrounding areas, it all resonated with me. I had spent almost those same years as a social worker for Fresno County, and while I had not crossed paths with her or her sisters, Teresa and Penny, I could relate to much of what she wrote. However, my perspective came from the “other side” of the story. The side that represented the system, which I can readily acknowledge to be broken. Or at least severely damaged.I had heard similar stories from the children in care, but in this author’s case, she kept most things secret. She did mention telling a neighbor some of her experiences, only to be dismissed.As the years passed, there were good times for the sisters, and there were seemingly ordinary coming-of-age moments, but the lack of an emotional connection to a parent was keenly absent.The sisters did share a strong bond with each other that lasted through their time in care…and afterwards, when they finally reconnected with their biological mother. But again, physical proximity seemed to be the main connection between the long absent mother and the sisters.Like Family: Growing Up in Other People's Houses, a Memoir was an all too familiar tale to those of us who have worked in the system. Reading this story from a real life “graduate” of that system was inspirational. It is a testament to the author’s strength and resilience that she made it through to the other side, and can now share what she has learned along the way. 5 stars.

I got this book without reading a sample- something I usually do before buying a book. I so liked McLain's novel about Beryl Markum that I just ordered her autobiography. It is about her childhood, being bounced from foster home to foster home with her 2sisters, after her mother just took off and while her father was in and out of jail. Unfortunately, the writing is not stellar, and she jumps around when talking about the different foster homes,so it gets confusing. She failed to make me care about her and her sisters. I won't finish it

I am doing this because I spent hours of research trying to find a book that would satisfy my needs for a library NOT ONLINE for those times of power failure, or God forbid disaster when internet is NOT there for you to consult.If you are not interested in in depth reviews, then my sections will be clearly labeled with different specifics so you can find what you want, or skip to the end for THE BOTTOM LINEWHAT IS THIS BOOK LIKE?This book is 6 inches by 9 inches and about 5/8 of an inch thick. That means it is easy to keep alongside your essential oil stash or take with you should you desire to do so. It is not a coffee table book. This is not, however, a picture book. This is a basic black and white book with a few diagrams or BASIC illustrations.This book is broken into sections. There are a LOT of warnings, cautions, or explanations of situations that you need to know about using essential oils with. That includes such topics as pregnancy, epilepsy, hypoglycemia, children, ages of people for use internally or just topically, and many more.Topics such as building tolerance, implants, cancer, use around eyes, and other cautions are covered- quite a bit, but not too much.DRUG INTERACTIONS AND CAUTIONSThis section is well laid out. Each essential oil is listed independently in chart form and it outlines any cautions you might want to know about each oil individually. This allows for quick consultation with the information when you are looking into use of a blend that you want to make just to be sure you are not going to cause problems with yourself or family members.APPLICATIONS AND CARRIER OILSThis section outlines not only what you can do with the oils, but the best way to apply them. Benefits of different carrier oils are outlined as well as dilutions. There is a chart that outlines different basic oils and how best to administer them and what situations to avoid using them.SPECIFIC HEALTH CONDITIONSTo be honest with you, this is the section I really wanted the book for. I am very glad to have the previous sections as they are wonderful for reference. However, this section is the most helpful when you need help quickly. Each health condition is listed with basic blends that you can make to ease the condition.HOW USEFUL HAS THIS BOOK BEEN FOR ME?I have to say that this book has come in VERY handy for what I have needed it for. I have had to deal with a wide variety of uses in our family. Pink eye, Flu (severe), Fibromyalgia, indigestion, and migraine. I have used the recommended blend (adding a few extras that I knew would help) and have had really good results with them.I have also had the chance to help my parents which was very successful using the pain blend for back pain.WHAT I WISH THIS BOOK INCLUDEDBecause this is about surviving and disasters, I would like to see a bit more information added about using essential oils for pets- what is safe, what is not, etc. Because in times of hard living, that would be VERY helpful.THE BOTTOM LINEIf you would like to have basic information about health issues, know about cautions and situations to avoid using essential oils (or which ones NOT to use for pregnancy, if you are epileptic, etc) and other basic information about using essential oils in survival level situations, this book is an excellent reference. I have personally tried quite a few blends in this book now and found them to work very well not only for me, but other members of my family who were not believers in essential oils. This book is simple and black and white, so if you are looking for pictures and lots of colors, this book is not going to fill that desire. However for basic information to help your family through some hard situations, this book is great.If it had information about animals (and if essential oils could be at all used for them) it would be about perfect!I give this five stars and will update as I have even more experience with it in the future.

Excellent reference book to have on hand! Very complete how to use essential oils and safety data sections. I have used essential oils for over 15 years and have not found a more complete guide when it comes to how to use and how much to use for children. Every home that uses essential oils should have a copy of this book on hand. I also love his simple and direct protocols for a wide variety of physical issues and concerns. Well written, easy to follow and in depth information.

This is a great book with very helpful information. It is one of the best resources that I have found. The only bad thing is that over 40 pages on the left hand side have a printing issue and a column down the entire page is missing which makes it tough to read:(, Make sure you look through your book before the return date in case your copy has the same problem. I didn't notice quick enough to be eligible to return the book. I have had great luck ordering on Amazon but sometimes returning can be an issue.

This 2nd edition from Dr. Scott Johnson is a winner! If you are looking for a clearly written, concise book that has suggested protocols to follow mixed with a ton of useful information, you (like me) have found it!The first part of the book details constituents of the oils and a bit of history. There are references to scientific journal studies if you have an interest and would like to dig deeper. The book goes on to describe quite a number of oils and their contraindications and possible interactions. This is clearly presented and very useful - particularly for those who are either pregnant, currently taking prescribed medicines, or planning to use oils on children.The book continues with a great description/discussion on various carrier oils and their properties, as well as a discussion of methods of application. Again, presented in a manner that makes sense without having to weed out all the extraneous, no-so-important info.Finally, the last 90 or so pages list different health conditions along with clear protocols. Dilution ratios are provided as well as application and dosing information.Have I already mentioned how clear and concise this book is??? It's a great addition to whatever might be on your bookshelf right now; if there's nothing there at the moment, this is a fabulous first book!

-This is a thin book, easy to read, it's more of an outline with "recipes." -There are a ton of ailments that are listed in this book. -There are no "fillers" that go on and on of paragraph information that you'll never read. -I have purchased one book that has information and tips when using essential oils, and I purchased this for a quick reference without the fluff, for a lot of recipes. -I have found great mixes to make and to try. -Very easy to understand, and very easy follow the "recipes." -I'm so glad I bought this book. I have used it more than the internet and the original book I bought when seeking a new mix to make to treat or help with anything.

I have been an essential oil junkie for almost 4 years now. While the Internet is FULL of people's opinions regarding essential oils, you clearly can not put stock in certain things that some people say. The comments and perceived knowledge can be suspect. This book might be viewed by some with skepticism. Those that believe that the FDA is infallible have been drinking too much kook-aid, as are those that believe that there is no place for modern medicine. Dr. Scott A Johnson gives good advice is this book. There is no question that essential oils have a place in our respective medicine cabinets. Those that think not, have their heads in the sand. Purchase this book. You won't be disappointed.
